Default Block numbers

I'm trying to do some research and I know that one place the block is stamped is in front of the passenger cylinder head and one number on there is the VIN but what is the other number? It reads F07I8RE. Are there numbers somewhere else that I should look for?

F0718RE is "Flint" July 18, RE=340/365HP solid lifter engine 62-63-64 with manual trans.

The F is the Flint Michigan engine assembly plant

07 18 is the date... July 18

RE is the suffix that tells you what the engine/trans combo is.

In 62, RE was the 340HP manual trans.
In 63, RE was the 340HP manual trans.
In 64, RE was the 365HPmanual trans. Chuck

There are also a block casting number and casting date if your interested in more than just the stamped information. They are towards the rear or the block.

Thanks for the info. I found some other numbers.......3782870 is on the block behind the drivers side cylinder head. On the block inside where the bell housing bolts to is 935 then under that is H(space)11(space)870. Any of these mean anything? The heads say 3991482 or 3991492 it's hard to tell if the second to last digit is an 8 or a 9. I was told they came off of a 67 or 68 Camaro 302 motor and they were pretty good heads. Is that true?

Can't help with the heads, but the 870 block is the correct casting number for 62-5.

The casting date of the block is located on the passengers side bellhousing flange, near the distributor. It'll be something like F 13 3 which would be June 13, 1963. Chuck

Those heads are '69-'72 350 service-only replacements, with 2.02/1.6 valves; pretty good heads.
