What is a non DOT tire worth?
I have one B.F. Goodrich Silvertown whitewall tire, size 7.75x15. It has a lot of tread remaining. There are no DOT markings on this tire. I have no idea what it is worth. Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

At Carlisle last weekend I saw them anywhere from $150 to $500. The $500 was for a lone Firestone 6.70/15 non-dot whitewall. SOme else had a decent set of 4 for $2000!

Are we talking about original 40 year old tires? If so, I'd be nervous mounting them on anything (I've been around tires exploding), let alone driving on them. There was an old store in my home town that went bankrupt. The bank sold all of the old inventory including many sets of tires. Nobody really knew the age of them, but in almost every set of four, at least one blew.
Besides structural weakness from age, they also harden. I left the Phoenix race tires on my 67 Fiat when I retired it. Those tires are so hard now that it is like ice skating with it.
I understand the desire for original tires on a trailered show piece, but I'd never drive on them.

I was just wondering this the other day., I have a worn original whitewall that i am going to most likely chunk in the garbage, but now i have started wondering if that might be a mistake.

Even though some of these tires should not be driven on, they make great spares for cars going through judging.
As long as it's the right brand and size there's someone out there that wants it.
