Default distributor springs

i can wiggle the rotor about 3-4 distributor degrees before the springs take hold and try to pull it back. this seems wrong to me, as i do not think there should be such play. anyone out there have enough experience to answer this for me. i wonder if there should be any back and forth play in the rotor at all. many thanks. [IMG][/IMG]

Default Re: distributor springs (wernerreis)

Have you pulled the rotor off and cleaned the mechanism? Due to all the high voltage, the mechanism attracts a reddish dust that gums up the advance. If you clean it, just wipe the bottom of the weights with a little grease film to lube, without leaving enough to see. If the #1961234 plastic sleeve is worn or missing from the pin that holds the points cam plate, you can replace with any .25 OD x 3/16 long tube that you can find/create. A missing sleeve will cause slop, but there is a little at the bottom of the advance that gets taken up at engine idle speeds.
