The 65 I just bought came with a torker II intake, Edelbrock 1406 carb and a POS Edelbrock Pro Flow 1002 air cleaner. The only thing it can filter out would be something the size of a bolt or maybe a set of car keys from entering the intake.
Brought home a 14" x 3" round air cleaner and it is to high for the hood and that is probably why he used the Edelbrock triangler one.
Next winters project, would like to go back to original look with a Performer 2101 or simular intake with the oil filler and PCV ,1406 carb and the 365 hp chrome stock air cleaner. The stock alum. corvette valve covers would also be installed which came with the car.
To get by for this summer I just want a better air cleaner that fits. What are you using. Thx.

I think the intake is your problem but you can try a drop base air cleaner that came on the car originally. It drops the air cleaner down around the carb. It may just be the fix to your problem. Dave..

Good luck.
I just bought a 2 1/4" K&N. I wanted it to be about 2 1/2" so I cut a piece of semi-rigid foam to put in the bottom of the base. Works great. I got it from Jeg's

you couldn't give me a K&N airfilter to put on my car.
I hope he doesn't mind but I'm going to steal a reply from JohnZ from another thread on another forum when the subject of K&N filters came up.
"You'll notice:
1. A lighter wallet.
2. No measurable performance difference, but you'll want to, after spending the $.
3. More dirt in your engine.
The laws of physics don't change - more airflow means less effective filtration, and our OEM testing of K&N's has shown that for years; they're nowhere near as effective in stopping particles as the production pleated paper filter."
"Filtration effectiveness with a K&N drops off dramatically when the oil dries out, and cleaning them (properly) and re-oiling is a messy PITA; most people don't do that regularly after doing it once. Changing the inexpensive pleated paper filter takes less than a minute, and you don't have to wash up afterwards"
So, while the K&N may flow a little more air, it's doing it at the expense of reduced filtration abilites allowing more contaiminents into your motor. Is THAT what you really want?
Slice65, since you mentioned you also have a K&N filter on your diesel truck you need to be especially careful as John aslo mentioned "The biggest mistake is to put a K&N on a diesel pickup; diesels are unthrottled, and inhale their maximum air-pumping capacity 100% of the time, even at idle. Doesn't take long to dry out a K&N on a diesel."
Since the K&N filters are oil soaked type filters the oil itself is a large part of the filtering process. When the oil dries up the filtering capacity is reduced even further. Since diesels are going to dry out the filter even faster than a normal motor you are running even more of a risk to your motor than you are with a non-diesel vehicle.
For me, the bottom line is simple. K&N filters=less filtration=less protection for the motor so I stay away from using one.
For what they cost you can buy a LOT of regular pleated paper filters and gain better protection for your motor AND not have to worry about messy re-oiling of the filter to boot.

I have had this construction truck new since 2000 with K&N in,has 198000 km with on problems yet. Oil never dries out as it is cleaned 3-4 times a year and much cheaper than paper. No biggie to clean hose off , let dry , oil and install. Takes longer to drain 18 L of oil and change oil filter than clean K&N. Time will tell how good they are.
Oh did I mention the installed 4" exhaust and chip gives it 365 hp and 650fp torque. Lots of black smoke from exhaust w/ lots of white smoke from tires!

Never had motor go bad. Biggest problem is rubber coming off rear tires.

K&N filters always generate interesting discussions!
In any case here is a pic of one (about 2 1/4") I used in the past with the Edelbrock 1406 and a SB hood. The model number is E-3740. I now have a stinger hood and use the 3" version.
The stock air cleaner base will not clear the electric choke. You will have to go aftermarket. I used (see pic) the Edelbrock base and the original GM top.
Some minor mods to the crankcase vent plumbing are necessary as the Edelbrock snout is smaller in diameter than that on the GM base.

Thanx Paul 67
That is exactly the stock look I like to end up with but the 350 block has no back vent hole so I plan to install one in the back of the stock intake.
Ordered the 365 hp air cleaner from CC and will probably have to rework the bottom at the choke as even the after market interfeared. Hope mine engine and under hood look as good as yours when its done.
Canadains must think the same as I like that look and have owned a Lincoln LS in Estate Green which is simular and loved the colour.
