Default Need correct resistance/impedance on speakers...double question

I think the correct impedance on my original 65 radio is something like 1.7 ohms to the speakers (unlike todays cars with 4 or 8 ohms). I also have a 94 Vette and the guy at the stereo store told me to upgrade to an indash CD player required changing all the stock 1994 speakers because they are " 1.7 ohms" or something like that. QUESTION,. Is it correct that Corvette continued with the same impedance speakers ? Can I put a 4 or 8 ohm better quality speaker in my stock 65 or will it damage the stock 65 radio ?

Thx

Elmer
