Default 519 Passenger car Block VS 519 Corvette Block

How do they differ?
I think the corvette block has the month, date and (year) and casted on the block. The passanger car just has the month and date (not the year). Please let me know if I am correct in my thinking.
Thanks George

George

The Vette block will have month-date-year with one digit for the year. The passenger car will have month-date-year with two digits for the year. For example, Vette would be 4-28-0 as opposed to passenger car which would be 4-28-60.

Correct. It would be "8" (Flint, Corvette) as opposed to "58" (Tonawanda, passenger)

As already partially explained, it IS NOT the difference in pass car vs Vette engine which determines single or two digits for the year, it's determined by whether the block was cast at Tonawanda or Flint. Vette engines were PREDOMINANTLY cast at Flint. But Flint also cast pass car engines. So MANY passenger cars have a single digit (Flint) for the year.

Flint V-8 built 5,500 small-block engines per day (one every 12 seconds), and 5,400 of them went into passenger cars and trucks - the other 100 or so went into Corvettes; Flint's blocks were cast at the Saginaw Foundry, with a single digit for the year. Tonawanda small-blocks were cast on-site at the Tonawanda Foundry, and ALL of them went into passenger cars and trucks, with two digits for the year.

Except for an extremely small number of 8180 blocks in 1965 (cast at Tonawanda but machined/assembled/stamped at Flint), ALL Corvette small-blocks were cast in Saginaw and assembled at Flint Engine until the late 70's.

That is correct, I wasn't going to go to that depth.

Absolutely true. Guilty as charged of too much shorthand...
