Default 1966 Rocker Panel Moulding Mounting Tabs- How Many Should I Have?

According to all the vendor catalogs I should only have 3 per side. 1963 to 1965 had 6 per side. Well, I have 6 per side. The car is a St. Louis body, build date C22- November 22, 1965, so it is an early car, but not really early. There is no evedence that any tabs have been added, they all look original. Also, the rocker moulding itself has all the holes for 6 brackets.

I am positive that this is the original body for the car, all the numbers match. Any ideas ?

Not sure that two catalogs represents "all" of the vendor catalogs, but I believe what you've found is a mistake in each of the catalogs. I think the number 6 represents per side, not the car total. These wouldn't be the first mistakes or mislabellings in vendor catalogs!

PS My '66 has more than 3, I'm pretty sure!! May or June '66 car.

But then again, maybe not!! Just went out to check out of curosity, I've got 3 screws per side at the bottom of the rocker, and as best as I can tell by feeling, this translates to 3 each of the rocker support brackets per side as well. This is also what is shown in my '66 AIM page F92, or assembly drawing F4, I believe. I never cease to be amazed at how bad my memory is after 20 or so years!!

By the way, the AIM apparently indicates the drawing was revised in 3 places on Nov 11, '65, apparently along the sill, which I suspect may have been to remove the 3 brackets. This may be the explanation. (Note the three circled "3's" along the sill in the following post. These were the locations of the revisions mentioned above, which may have been to remove three brackets. I'd have to pull my '65 AIM to be sure, but I suspect so.)

It's shown in the listing at the bottom of the AIM page, locations on the drawing where revisions were made on Nov 11, 65.

It sure would be nice if a few more '66 owners could pipe in with their bracket count. Thanks!

My 66 has a build date of Dec 8, 1965 and has 3 brackets per side. This is an AOSmith car. Is yours St. Louis or AOSmith body.

Default ?

Mine is a St. Louis body-build date Nov. 22 1965.

Like Ron Miller said, the A.I.M. looks like it was revised on Nov. 11 1965 to remove 3 of the 6 brackets per side.

Thanks for the input guys !
