Many people have suggested a FAQ list. This is my attempt at one and I need your input. My plan is to start a thread titled, "Frequently Asked Questions" I would hope that it could be locked and edited only by me. This would prevent new people replying in that particular thread and thereby keeping it clean and at 1 post only. In the message body will be links to good threads on specific area's. A good thread would include pictures(photobucket, etc), video(youtube) and well written instructions on the subject. I prefer the pictures be hosted on a site that will be around in the future. Something like Photobucket and Youtube. That way no broken links an red X's. It would be great to have clean threads that don't have any replies in them. Or that added good substance to the thread. Not the multipage, debate, silly stuff.
What do YOU think ? Suggestions, pro's and con's...
I think it's a good idea.. any time there are reference materials available on any subject it makes the learning process easier. One of the reasons I am for this is that when a subject comes accross the main C1/C2 discussion page and the subject has been visited many times... some of the people with the most knowledge may not feel like typing it out again. So the information the researcher is looking for is not available to him for nothing less than "fatigue".
We having filing systems in our workplace because it makes accessing
needed information quick and easy... So why wouldn't having the same
set up here make sense.
I know there will be some who will argue that we can already search..but sometimes good discussions aren't nessasarily labeled or titled in a way that would allow a new member to find them.
Perhaps we could list a subject like "Birdcage" and then have a list
underneath it with links to discussions on the subject.. a bibliography
of sorts.
"In the multitude of counselors there is safety".. the proverb says.
I'm all for making the Forum's expertise/counsel as easy to find as
possible... everyone will benefit.
Perhaps we could make the FAQ attack the disemination of knowledge on two fronts....have a general facts paragraph with
the initial eg:"Birdcage" subject...then a listing of some of our best
threads underneath it as additional reference.... and I think it would
be beneficial to list many different approaches..think of how many
avenues can be taken to deal with rust.... good idea Jerry.
1. How to post pictures (great post by Duntov that has helped many)
2. Adjusting lifters (Duke et.al. have posted good instructions)
3. Setting the timing / points (Many good directions on this as well)
4. Overheating problems (lots of good advice from members that have solved their problem)
5. Part identification and installation (JohnZ has provided some great pics that have been helpful)
A few more - all of which I have used, and would be good archive items for members. BarryK has done a good job of archiving tech papers on a lot of things he has found on the forum.

just make sure that all the facts are confirmed and agreed upon...and that personal opionions are ommitted from whoever provides the answer to the FAQ.
something like...
"which is the best street camshaft?" or "which is the best rear gearing for all around driving?" or "how can I make 400 horse power?" will only rage more debate and can confuse the heck out of a newbie to this hobby.
If anyone has saved links to a good thread. Send me the link via email or PM. If you get bored and do advanced searches and find good threads. Send me the links.
Don't forget. You can write a good article off-line in your word processor. Tweak it and then do a copy/paste and post it on the forum. If you want to do a tech, rebuild, info article on any area that you are experienced in.
I would also like to have a good one on what to look for when buying a midyear. It would cover birdcage, frame, numbers, original body panels, etc...
So, basically, my "Frequently Asked Questions" post/thread will be an index to all these great threads.
Along with the the previously mentioned picture posting info, it would be nice to point out that there is a Sub-Forum called 'Testing' where any post can entered first to get the 'bugs' worked out before posting for all to see.
FWIW I have ask about a forum specifically for DIY threads...something that must include pics and step by step for things....I may have to revisit that.....in the meantime keep collecting your info...
Do you mean an entire seperate section of this forum ? I'll hold off, until I hear more about your idea. You can PM or post it here.

Great idea Ghost....I like it alot. I'm sure Barry would share alot of info that he has gathered from the forum. Lars has a bunch of great articles that he's written. It'd be nice to have all that info in one place.
BTW, what kind of guitar are you playing in your avatar?

Not sure that is possible, just ask whether to run Synthetic oil or Diesel. Perhaps threads on both sides of the story and let the reader make up their mind when necessary. This would be a great thread to have locked at the top, same as the current announcement from Troy and others I have seen.
Here are a few I have book marked, in no particular order:
I think it's a great idea, needs someone to add things occaisionally. People can add to the threads anything they want. There are a lot of questions that get asked over and over, searching can be a pain to find that tip you saw last year. May lead to more than one FAQ, you want to avoid a thead with hundreds of links.
I think if you have a thread in mind to add, why not simply post it hear. Sounds like Ghost is willing to do some digging to make something like this happen, make it easier for him.

Ghost, an idea on formatting. I saw a post from 67-427ci that had a title for the link, went to reply and ask how he did it and saw the http flags he used. To see how it's done, do a quote on this message. Each link is surrounded by braces "[]" and URL with a title in the middle. Saw a post from 67-427ci that had a title, went to reply and ask how he did it and saw the http flags he used. Note some lonks have show...p which must be fully changes to showthread or the link in this format will not work. I modified all the links with the original post title:
