1966 valve cover decal
Am i correct in seeing the early 66 cars had the
327 turbofire decal and later 66’s had the hp rating on the same sticker? This is for a 66 327, 300hp with steel covers

July '66 with real GM old stock label. Note how it fits exactly in the confines of the flat. Repro's that I've seen are oversize by ~1/8" both X & Y directions & spill up/over the stamped bead frame. Poor adhesion can be expected.

Prior to 66 327/300's (and 250's) had a foil "Chevrolet 327 Turbo-Fire" crack and peel label in the rectangle on the top of the valve cover and a water soluble horsepower decal on the side of the cover. For 66 the 327 label and 300 horsepower decal were replaced by a single decal incorporating the 327 and horsepower into one "327 Turbo-Fire 300 Horsepower" decal that was placed on the top of the valve cover. I've been told it's possible that some early build 66's still used the 2 piece foil label and decal, but I can't confirm that.
As a side note, instead of the foil label, 62 & 63 250 & 300 valve covers used an embossed metal plate with a raised "327" on it. For 67 a foil label with both engine size and horsepower were installed on top of the air cleaner.
