Thanks for posting that - I missed it - working.

Considering all of the hoopla and buildup over the past year - seemed like it didn't live up to it's billing.

Gee, even the guy if the Ferrari hat didn't seem to excited.

BJ announcers seemed to conveniently leave out the "restoration motor" label which they have so often used on other cars in the auction.

What a crock of BS!

I thought it would be on later in the evening. I got home from the NCRS Kissimmee show just in time to see the two Split Window tankers go. The Last Sting Ray went four lots later.

I agree, it was a bit anticlimatic...

I agree it was a little over-billed as it did not seem to take off. More exciting watching Jenkin's 74 pro-stock vega and of course seeing Shelby's 66 personal shelby go for 5 million. Just incredible....

Who is that skinny guy with the pointed nose in the Ferrari hat? Seems like he's on stage all the time.

He buys cars for some museum.

He had set the previous record of 3.3 million for that oldsmobile prototype.

He and the heavy guy in the yellow hat (see Last stingray bidding) got into a bidding war over it.

He taunted the guy by getting into the car and mocking him.

He could have bought the car for his museum at 2 mil. Instead, his actions drove the price up another 1.3 mil.

What an ***!

IIRC, he is the curator of a car museum somewhere.

The heavy set guy seems to get outbid by everyone. I see him in the mix but he always bows out.

Well, now that you have offended me by calling my beloved car a '65, not that there's anything wrong with '65's, I will not sell it to you. Sorry you had to be that way!!

I forget his name but he's shows a lot of restraint when the bidding gets into the "stupid" range.

I was somewhat confused by this guy's uneconomic behavior, but I finally figured that as a museum owner buying cars for a museum, the more he pays for a car the bigger of an attraction it is! Sounds weird, but the public only has one way to measure the value of something, and that is how much it costs. His $3.5mm record setting car is a much bigger attraction than a $2mm car.

The "Last Sting Ray" at $600k can sit in a museum. AT $100k it would be sitting in someone's garage. Must be me, but I fail to see the historical significance of the last 67 corvette to come off the assembly line. Did they blow up the factory after it came off?

Seriously, if the last one commands a premium of $400k or $500k, how much is the second to last one worth? Is it worth more than a middle of the run vin? How much is the 3rd to last Sting Ray worth?

I'm glad it went for less than $1M which would have been bogus and no help to the overall value of the C2 market.

Think I'll put my 64 on ebay tomorrow as the last 64 made on the day it was made (May 14, 1964) and ask about 100K as a "buy it now" price. OK? What do ya think guys, any takers?
