Default 64 Vett Rearend- 336 ?

Have a 64 Vette with a 336 rearend, thats whats stamped on rear the code reveals its a 336. I'm considering putting in a 370 gear. My question is how do you really determine rear end by counting the teeth on gears? I knew at one time but forgot. Help appreciated. Thanks, Craig

simple division. Divide the ring gear teeth by the pinion gear teeth.

OR

Just turn the wheel one revolution and count how many times the pinion revolves. It will not be exact, but it will be close enough to tell what it is.
