Barn Find
I wish I could find a barn find, I mean a real hidden away rare treasure! like investigating an old story told to many but discovered by few or maybe helping a friends grandfather mow the grass and go to get his lawnmower and bam! right there in the barn a Big Block 67 covered in years of dust...
Anyone have any stories to tell or rummers of the big one told around town! or even actually been on the hunt and found a treasure! Lets hear about it?

Last 3 years have been good... but not finding vettes...
Found a 67 chevelle 396ss close to my house for $3500..
in the previous 2 years I bought a Desoto 291 Hemi Engine for
$200.00
Also lucked into a 392 Hemi for $600.00.. again just the engine...
keep your eyes open and talk to car guys in your area... you never
know what might turn up.

There's a 1970 440 Plymouth Superbird in a shed/garage about 200 yards from my house and a 1963 Corvette split window about a 1/2 mile from my house sitting outside for the last 15 years.

The Superbird is not for sale. The owner knows that it's worth over $100,000.00. This spring I'm suppose to pull the auto trans out of the car and help the owner rebuild it and then put it back in. It's Richard Petty Blue and has 51,000 miles on it. The car has been off the road since 1987 but, at least it is in a homemade shed. The Corvette down the road from me sits outside and every year I stop by to see if the owner has changed his mind but, he always says no. It's ashame because, the owner does not have tarp over it. I will try to get pictures of the cars when I get a chance.

I found a 69 Indy Pace car (RS/SS Camaro convertible) near by sitting outside under a pine tree I went to the door and inquired about it and was told "yup, gunna fix' er sometime".....that was 6 years ago! It is still sitting there rotting to the gunnels.
There should be some kind of abuse law where you could intervene or something. Just a shame to see these cars die a slow death

in 1981, I found a 54 vette with 16,000 miles on it in a barn. the guy wanted 16k for it. i talked him down to 12k. I wanted to pay 10k so I let it go. years latter in rationalizing it out my money did better in a mutual fund than i think ot would have in that car, but it did keep me awake at nights dreaming about it. and i aready have a 59. The 54 needed paint and rechroming the tach still had a 0 in first number in the counter.
in 1988 i ran across another barn find, a pontiac bonnaville special. this was one of two show cars made by GM. Looks like a 54 vette with a plastic clear roof. owner wanted 50k. her lawer called me and told me the story of the car. Her deceased husband was a car dealer and it was left at the dealership no one ever came to pick it up. so he took it home and stored it in his barn. NO TITLE and potentially a stolen vehicle
It was up for auction in arizona a few years ago. theres a little more to the story but i dont like to type.
Now one i'm working on is a 63 s/w. sitting in a barn for the past 10 years, and near my house. The tip came from a girl in the office who's parents live next door to the person who owns the car. i asked her if the lady wanted to sell it, she inquired and the answer was NO. I don't know her maiden name so I cant find her parents. But the thought just came to me on how to find it as i was typing this.I'll try to find the name in the morning at work if I have time. if i have any luck i'll pay a visit to the woman myself and she if my charm has any effect.

Here's the story of my "barn" find . In 1996 I found my 64 in a garage about a 1/2 mile from my house. I was riding my bike around and spotted a midyear front end out of the corner of my eye. I wanted to get a better look so I kept riding by going up the drive a little at a time, I did this for about 5 minutes I could see the car was covered with a half inch of dust but looked solid. All of the sudden the owner comes around the corner of the house and say's can I help you In a get the hel* out of here way. So I apologize for being nosey and tell him I live down the steet to ease his mind and really liked his car. After some small talk he invites me in the garage and now the car looks really good through the dust even with the top down I could tell he did not care about the car. I started looking and saw the H/P signs on the car, new paint lots of overspray no trim on the car, 25 year old tires and figured theres no way he will sell this car. After about 2 hours of talk I drop the bomb on him and ask if he would sell it. He tell's me that he is tired of parking out side in the winter and might want to sell. I say what do you think it's worth, we talk money for a while and end up at less than 9K. I can't believe what just happened. I called him 2 day's later, long day's indeed and he tell's me that his wife dosnt want him to sell the car. My heart skiped a couple beats and I'm thinking I'm an idiot for not offering more, then he say''s, but I'm going to sell it anyway. It was the longest two weeks of my life waiting for him to sell it to me. I was so excited about the car and the price I did'nt sleep and I never really looked at It until I got home with it. I had purchased Nolan Adams book the day before and I was up until 4am going over the car. I had just puchased a mostly original low milage 64 Silverblue/Dark blue Fuel Injected two top Roadster for $ 8,600. It was one of the best days of my life and I will never sell it for any amount.

A friend told me about a Mopar he spoted on a remote road in the Maine woods. I had some time off one afternoon so I thought I would check it out. In a field next to a trailer on a back road, I stress back road, is a 71 Cuda buried to its rockers from sitting so long. Its got all the right stuff, 440 Six Pack, shaker hood, pistol grip shifter, dana 60, red, black interior. The guy is NOT interested in selling no way. Says he's a body man and one of these days he's going to fix it up. My friend offered to pull it out of its ruts and set it on blocks to get it off the ground for him. Nope, says he's gonna get to it one of these days.
Yea Right! Spoke to some guys in the area they say he's been giving that story to everyone that asks about it for years. Too bad.

I know of 4 Vettes, a '58, '64, '66 and an early C-3 which have been sitting in a driveway for at least 30+ years. I can remember them when I was in 5 or 6 years old and they are still sitting there today. My dad stops by every few months, but same old story from the owner, "I am going to fix them up and get them on the road". I am sure a few thousand people have stopped by that house......

barn find
My 57 came from a barn in Mich. the owner had bought it in 1971 and quit driving it in 74 and put in in a barn and started gathering parts to restore it as a retirement project. Fast forward to 2004 he came down with a terminal illness and I bought the car from him Oct 2005 and he passed away jan ! 2006.

Not Vette related, but you all might get a kick out of this site. It is the Canadian Mopar version of Cars In Barns. Hope I pasted the link in properly.

I know where a 1968 435hp one owner vette is sitting.
Non vette:
1963 Impala SS vert (327)
1969 Z-28, pulled out of a junkyard 20 years ago (I helped)
Many others, but those are the rare ones.
