King Hussein 1967 L88 Corvette?
I have been talking to another member about these 1967 L88's. Anyone have any information on the L88 that King Hussein purchased back in the 60's that was crashed by his son in Jordan? King Hussein was a great car collector and even the Porsche Factory acquired some of the cars that he owned after he died. Even John Mecum the oil guy who ran the racing team with the three Grand Sports built a special Can Am car called a Hussein after his good friend the King which was driven by the likes of such drivers as A.J. Foyt and John Cannon, etc.. The car had a 426 Hemi. Apparently King Hussein searched for that car world wide without success. It was believed that an enemy of his had the racing car- knowing that he wanted it, being that it was named after him! This car (The Hussein Can Am Racer) resurfaced here recently and I want to see where it came from. I haven't had the time to research that find! Additionally that L88 lost in the desert sure would be interesting. I believe it was a white roadster one of two built with consecutive serial numbers. This interest of mine is purely just because I am interested because it is an interesting subject. Naturally if I was asked to join an expedition to find this car probably lying next to some dinosaur bones, if someone else paid the bills, I would go! Anyone know anything about these Hussein cars!

The info that I had on the car from back in the 80's is that it was indeed an L88. Also, supposedly, it was the brother, not the son, that crashed the car. After the crash, the car was stored in a huge building along with a LOT of the Kings other cars and it remained there in that condition for a long time, covered in dust. I don't know where it went from there.

If I remember corectly, Dan Blocker (Bonanza fame) was involved with the Hussein II Can Am car. That may be a "lead"!

I believe the King Hussein connection was with Mecom racing out of Texas.

You are correct that John Mecom fielded the Hussein which was powered by a cast-iron Nascar Chrysler 426 Hemi. AJ Foyt was the only driver with the bravery and skill to drive it with any success.
