Default 64 Oil pan question

My 64 300hp has a 5 quart oil pan with a rear sump but the drain plug is on the front of the sump. I think the original pan should have the drain in the rear. Does anyone know what this pan came on? Thanks.

I have a 65 327/300HP 5 quart (canister filter) and the drain plug in in the back. Not sure this helps, but it's an original early 65 327.
