Am I the only one who has spare sets of keys made for each car? I can't imagine going through all that just because the "only" key was locked in the trunk.

I've seen keys disappear so fast and so easy, even traveling short distances I frequently have a spare set around.

I can't imagine having only one set, although I have purchased cars that way.

Me too.

I also have a full set of "all important" keys in my bank safety deposit box. Now if only I could find the key for the bank box!

I used a ford latch; Ecklers has a Camaro/firebird latch that works, pricey tho....

Like a few have said there aren't that many GM keys from that era. I have a ring of GM keys dating back to the early 60s and I have yet to be stumped finding a key that fit for any old GM car. I once bought a 60 Olds 88 in L.A. that had no key and I found one once I got home.

If you don't know anyone or have yourself a selection of keys, go to the oldest GM dealer in town and ask the service manager if he has a collection you can borrow. Most old dealerships have LOTS of them.

I think sixt1 still has the keys locked in the trunk and has never used the car since 2007.

The correct answer is from jeff62.

I was at a show, it was getting warm so I threw my jacket in the trunk with the keys in the jacket pocket. I used my wifes jacket as a pillow and hit the center of the emblem. No damage was done to the emblem and the keys were recovered.

I have a spare set of keys "at home" duh.

OP's last forum activity was 3-23-2009 so I doubt we're going to hear how things ended. Probably either sold the car "as-is-where-is no keys" or passed away from frustration that he could not find them.

And since that Sawzall needs electricity, and you may not always be near a power supply when you lock your keys in, one of these might be what you need. Just carry one in your trunk so it's always handy!
