Recommendations for speedo repair shop?
I removed the speedo from the '58 today. The speedo seems to work intermittently, so the best thing might be to replace the mechanism. It also has one broken odometer gear, and could use a new odometer.
Can anyone recommend someone to do the repairs, or a source for the parts?

Not sure if Jason Oliver works on C1s but Corvette Instrument Service is very good and fast turn around.

I've used North Hollywood Speedometer and Clock, North Hollywood, CA, several times and they did an excellent job.

Check your yellow pages. Larger towns usually have a speedometer repair shop. Contrary to legend, repairing speedometers isn't illegal. Somehow some people equate repair with setting back.

I've never dealt with Jason Oliver, but I happened to notice another thread that suggests that his business practices may at least temporarily be different than they used to be.

Thanks for the tips. I spent several hours on the phone with half a dozen repair shops, including in Florida, Maryland, California, New York, and British Columbia.
It's amazing how each person had a different plan for fixing it. Some like to reuse what they can, while others like to use mostly new parts. Some disassemble and clean the mechanism, while others replace the mechanism. One man said he makes new parts on this lathe. Turn around also varies greatly - from a few days to three months or so. Prices quoted for repair and minor restoration (already quite good cosmetically) varied from under $100 to about $400.
The fellow I sent it to, although not the cheapest, sounds very good and has lots of good references. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I used and am very happy with gldnkngt@comcast.net, a member here in the forum and am very happy with his work, my gages came back looking much better than I anticipated and am extremely pleased with turn around time and price he charged. His website is

In one of his emails he wrote: my E-Bay name is gldnkngt. Check out my store any gauge you see on there was unsellable and rough looking and I re-faced all of them.

I'm also very satisfied with his repair on my speedo/odo/tach earlier this year, was fast turnaround, quality work, great communication, pleasure to do business with. Nice having a working trip/odometer.

I had all my '60 gauges done several years ago by RedLine. I couldn't be happier with the result. Quality work and a nice guy to deal with.
