Default '65 Trip Odometer Reset cable routing diagram

I just re-installed my cluster and I am installing a trip odometer reset cable and bracket. The cable /bracket was previously missing and removed by Bubba or one of his trained mechanics! I need a diagram of how the cable is routed and how the bracket mounts to the underdash. I could not find anything in the AIM or Shop manuals. Please chime in. Thanks

From my 65 rewiring project last year...

In the far left of this picture you can see the trip odometer reset ****...

This picture shows the mount brackets under the steering column. The bracket my gloved hand is holding is directly under the bracket with the reset **** on it. The U-bolt penetrates first the reset **** bracket and then the main bracket.

And this picture shows that the trip odometer cable comes through the hole in the Z-bar behind the dash

i think your pictures may show an improperly installed reset ****.
not sure about the 65 but the 66 owners manual clearly shows the reset to the right of the column and more forward. this would be facilitated by turning the u-clamp 180 degrees from your picture.

hope this helps. i am 99% positive it should be on the right of the column

I remember mine being on the right also unless it is different for an A/C car.

I'll check into that. I remember when I was putting it all back together, I test fit it with the **** on the right side instead of the left. I had some sort of problem that made me double check my disassembly photos, and found that it had been on the left when I removed it. But I can't remember what type of problem it created (clearance, cable angle, etc)

I just installed mine...65 A/C car...on the right just back of the gauge cluster...so 180 from the pics shown. I actually kinda fit just into the cluster panel, and was clearly the way it was before, right or wrong...I think maybe the vent cable mount might be the interference issue...haven't got that far yet

You may be right about the vent cable. I checked out my car a bit ago and it looks like there would be very little room to grab the ****, with that vent **** also right there.

However I'm not against trying to make a change - the next time I feel like pulling my seat and crawling around there. Honestly though, after last Fall's wiring fun, I REALLY have no interest in laying on my back on that floor board again for a long time

Does the trip clamp bracket get installed after the steeering column is installed and does the bracket go around the actual column?

1) Install the column
2) Put the U-bolt over it
3) Install the trip clamp bracket
4) Install the lower support bracket (the one I'm holding in my first picture earlier)
5) Install nuts on the U-bolt from step 2
6) Bolt up the lower support bracket to the metal support for the brake/clutch pedal

I know this is an old thread. My 63 assembly manual does not show this. Which way is the reset ****? right front or left rear as the photo shows?

It is like this for 63....ignore the bracket...that just keeps the trip odometer in 'reset mode' to reduce wear on the main odometer drive train and prevent premature failure.

I am rewiring my 65 and found the trip odo reset cable hanging behind the cluster, still connected. The end of it does not have a **** but does have something like a push button/rotary stem.

How does the reset cable work? I tried pushing the end in, rotating and nothing seems to reset the trip odo.

Can someone please supply the bracket or detail on how this works and mounts?
