Tornado just hit Carlisile fairgrounds.

Shouldn't there be something on the Carlisle Productions website about this? I am sure there are lots of people heading up to the show today. Not that everyone looks at the website, but that would be most logical place to go if someone were to look for the most current information.

Damn......a group of us from East Tenn Corvette Club were there all day Friday and until noon on Saturday when we headed home. It was a great weekend as usual. Carlisle is the best Corvette event out there.....its shocking to see what happened just hours after we left. Thoughts are with everyone who had injuries or damage. Two of our members were still there after we left....hope they had wrapped up and are OK! (Tim.....let us know!!).

Not to dismiss any of the damage done, but I'd say be thankful it was not a big tornado (if it truely was a tornado). Usually tornados will do much worse damage, those tents and awnings are just typical of strong winds, a tornado would do that to solid structures. And a big tornado would just wipe it off the map (Greensburg, KS this past May). I do feel for those who had their cars damaged or property destroyed, but it could have been much much worse.

Duntov 097.....thanks for the photos. My wife and I were stunned. The scenes look like something out of Texas during our storm season. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who were there. I'm sure it was frightening.

wow, mother nature happens and that's what insurance is for but when it involves damage to one's own pride and joy will-never-be-the-same Corvette, it's hard to put into rational terms
wonder if the Vetteheads ballon was taken away to Oz by the storm?

I left at 3.30 pm and headed north on 15. At 6.00 pm just pass Corning we went through a nasty storm, very intense, white knuckles. Must have been the same storm cell.

I used to live in Delaware... I know the weather patterns that make up the Mid-Atlantic. I am about as sure as I can be that a tornado did NOT do that damage.
There is no sign of any thrown vehicles. That is the first indication of a tornado. Remember, we are dealing with tents and other temporary structures... toss in a lot of paper products (think brochures) and you have the makings for a real mess.
I have seen straight line winds, as slow as 40mph, do that level of damage. Something similar happened at Sebring in 2003. Friday nite, after the Speed World Challenge GT race ended (about 5:30p), a storm rolled in from the northwest. It came in with a feirce wind and a ton of rain. It destroyed several big display tents and countless smaller camping and shade/popup tents. Cans, bottles, boxes, coolers, anything light and not bolted down became one with the chainlink fences.
There was talk, again, of a tornado... but alas, no... no casualties... nothing bigger than a tent thrown around.... no fences damaged... nothing...
And that is what didn't happen there... it was just a nasty boomer. Think about it, for the most part, the large tents simply blew down. Even if a SS1 tornado hit, that would have sucked those big tents into oblivion.
Most importantly, no serious damage and even more importantly, no one was hurt.

I heard there were 20 people injured. Cars can be fixed. I guess now we will see who really has good insurance. There was a heated thread about Haggerty insurance the other day, maybe some of the owners with car damage will post info on their claims as things develop.
