It took me 24 years from the first time I drove a straight axel to buy one and now I find out I'm an outcast. I'm glad there's 44 other outcasts that are happy as hall to own a straight axel.

I presume that you are aware of the fact that -----------GENERALLY SPEAKING------------, in the world of Corvettes, the 53-62 Vettes are unwanted, unaccepted, outcast stepchildren, which the rest of the arrogant Corvette owners don't know what to do with. So, they just tollerate them.

Now, go back and re-read this, I said GENERALLY speaking.
This discription sounds just like me. That's why I have a car that fits my social status. :D   to the unwanted.

Bought my first Corvette 30 years ago. I've had my 1960 for 25 years and also own a brand new C5. Had just about one of every Corvette in between. If I'm an outcast--FINE--. I probably have OWNED Corvettes longer than they could SPELL Corvette.

It's a 56 with a SB400, Rochester FI modified by Bill Thomas back in 61 (?) and me in the 70s-80s, Muncie and 3.08 posi. The chassis has been upgraded to 60-62 configuration, HD brakes/suspension and a 57 airbox. At first appearance, it looks like a 57 579E airbox car (really, the only giveaway is the liscense tag-56VETTE). Red. Al Knock red/black interior (that's right, black, the carpet is 58 black cut and stiched to 56 specs), ALL original gauges, 57AC column tach, clock, radio, both tops, ALL trim, jack and 56 pass car dog dish hub caps on 15x6 front and 15x7 rear steel wheels.

Oh, and by the way, the BB guys are never ready for an old straight axle to come alive like this one!

With regard to Tom Parsons comment on the Straight axle corvettes.

What do you expect from a guy who lives in "MUSTANG" Oklahoma.

Probably drives an oil burning Pinto or possibly even one of those high performance Fairmonts ( the chassis used for Mustangs )

NO, I DON'T DRIVE A PINTO OR FAIRMONT! And I don't have a digital camera, so I can't post a picture. But, if you can find a copy of the July 97 VETTE Magazine, my car is the feature on pg 32.
Those pictures were tken during Bloomington 96 when it still had a 350 (built from a 327). It now has a SB406, with a road draft tube fabricated in the rear of the block.

How can you not like a guy who washes other people's cars for them?

I think that the C1's are the best looking Corvettes on the road. I want a 62 so bad and it is going to be my next Corvette.
