C2 Roll bar (cage) installations?
I'm considering fabricating one for my 66 coupe- Anyone have pics they can post? I'm thinking of a sleeper installation that is unobtrtusive yet (potentially, -hopefully never- ) effective... Thanks

The bar (main hoop) should be welded to the top of the frame on the kick-ups as close to the seat backs as possible/practical. The back braces can extend back about mid way to the rear of the cargo area. A diagonal bace of the main hoop is essential, as there are no gussets on the factory frame to prevent "parallelogram-ing" of the hoop. Put the brace in so it can support a drivers head rest. Minimum diameter and wall thickness should come from one of the sanctioning bodies (like SCCA or NCCC).
Good luck, and post pics please if you go through with it.

I don't have any good pics right now either...but I had a custom 6 point one built for my '67 Convertible a few months ago and couldn't be happier. I was getting thrown out of tracks pretty regularly. It's made from moly and the whole thing including swing out bars weighs less than 40#'s. I also had it powdercoated. It's also removable...unbolts to take out if I want to.
Autopower makes one for coupes...you might check out. I've seen some of them fit pretty nice. Check Jegs, Alston and Morrison for others. But for a really tight fitting one...you might need to go custom.

I made mine out of 1 5/8 x .120 DOM . My car (64 Coupe) had one installed in it's previous life and the patched the holes in the floor with old shingles ! So I figured "What the heck" and bought dies for my tubing bender and a couple joints of tubing. I have some left over if you want me to bend you one. I fit it real tight to the roof and sides. Haven't decided to weld it in or bolt yet. Send e-mail for pics.

I'm curious as to WHY you want a cage? If you vintage race, a period roll BAR is sufficient (4 point, see SCC GCR). If you are drag racing and plan on going lower than 11s, why would you want to tear up a C2 Corvette just for that? In short, I would suggest that you either read the rules of the sanctioning organization and meet those requirements, and/or pick a different donor car to start with.

SCCA cage requirements for ALL racing, vintage and modern Club, is a minimum of an 6-point cage, and in many classes an 8-point cage. Rules, recommended designs & materials are here in the SCCA GCR, pages 88-104:

Shoot me an e-mail and I can send you a couple of the pics I have. I'm no good at posting them.
It was all custom built...so no plans or dimensions written down really. We spent a LOT of time building it so soft top could still go up and down and side bars could swing out properly and clear doors and top with no drama.

There are very few vintage race organizations left that will allow you to road race with a 4-point cage.

Wrong! ALL of the organizations in the Vintage Racing Council require "period" preparation. There are absolutely NO Cobras with cages. If they were required for Cobras or Ferraris, there would be no Cobras or Ferraris racing. Look at pictures of the BRIC crash. Just in case you think that I'm not pro-safety, I wear a 3 layer suit AND nomex underwear.

So it looks like the subject of roll bars/roll cages is a dated thread. I'm doing a frame-off on a 64 roadster and so was looking for ideas and feedback from anyone that has gone that route. Don't want to cut any fiberglass and hope someone has ideas about what might work.Thnak you!

I'll post pics of mine when I get home from work, or you could probably find some of them if you searched my posts.

Style points count!!
This one we did in a C-3 that is near identical to mine. Same guy built it. It mounts to stubs that are welded to frame and it unbolts to make it removable. These are both convertibles and we wanted to keep the soft top functional..so it was a little tricky...but works great.

This is what mine started as. As soon as possible, I'm going to have removable door bars put in so it's NHRA legal. With the door bars and the hard top, I'll be good to 10.00.
I could take more pics if needed. Let me know what you want to see.
