Default 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Speciale "Rondine"

Was not aware of this car. Very ineteresting.

The world's only 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Speciale "Rondine" (Ron-di-nay) will be sold at No Reserve during the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on Jan. 12-20, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Penned by design legend Tom Tjaarda while he was at the world-renown Pininfarina design house in Italy, the Corvette "Rondine" was built for the 1963 Paris Auto Show and was preserved at the Pininfarina Museum.

At first glance, it reminded me of an Avanti.

They tried to make an AVANTI out of it. I like the real Studebaker AVANTI better.

Beautiful car. I love these "designer" and "concept" cars. They're unique, imaginative, and timeless.

It's bound for a private collection. And will, because of it's uniqueness far surpass the worth of most '63's on the road today.

Bank on it.

I think it's been modified from the original configuration. When I saw the car in the mid-'60s it did not have a fastback rear window. There was a flat pane mounted in the bright metal roof hoop at the same backwards angle. Like a Breezeway Mercury. And the rear deck was a couple of feet longer as a result.

It was very striking but I think most people will like the current treatment better. I certainly do.

What with fabricating hand-hammered metal panels and welding them to the birdcage, it would be a fantastically expensive project to build today. Wonder what they did with the original fiberglass; I doubt they were able to get a naked running chassis.

Or a hedge fund manager trying to fill up the eight car garage in his newly-constructed McMansion.

A nice, ostentatious compliment to his new Aston Martin DBS and the Porsche cabriolet he purchased for his trophy wife to keep her from whining too much about what the other "ladies who lunch" at the club are driving.

When I see thease things I often wonder if they have ever been actually driven.

Nice looking car for a '60s styling exercise which is all that it is.

I had a '59 Fiat Pininfarina back in the day. Looks a lot like this thing.

I actually find it rather striking.

I got a kick out of the custom wheel covers. I'm almost tempted to make a set.
