Beginning to sound like a fuel problem to me. Try clamping off the fuel line again anf then spray something like WD 40 across the Carb intake as you try to start the engine. If it fires then quits the I would difinitely say the problem is in the carb or maybe just bad gas.
I changed out the carb and i have put fuel stabilizer in the gas tank.
Anyway, apparently my fathers car is frying Pertronix systems for some reason. I just put my distributor and carb back on my car so at least one of the vettes would be running again and now my car has the same problem. Just cranks and cranks and will not fire. The timing is spot on and was not changed. So, as mentioned above, clearly my dads car is frying up the ignition systems. F-U-C-__ you know what.
Did you change the plugs? .Gas fouled plugs are not that common in cars.(happens all the time with Motorcycles) Once they are fouled they will not start, they have to be replaced. It's worth a shot, don't overlook the simple.
