C1 recomendations????
My wife bought me a cast metal '57. It's black with red side scoops and she's in love with it. I don't think this was a stock color combination for any C1. She has become obsessed by it and want one.
I can't, in good consceince, paint a C1 in this color if it's not a factory color.
Questions:
1) is this a factory option?
2) if not, are there C1 kits. Any additional info would be appreicated.
Thanks,

Re: C1 recomendations???? (John Row)
John -
There were no red coves available on 57's - only Beige with Copper, Green, and Red, Silver with Black, Blue, and White, and Ivory with Silver. As far as '57 models go, Bburago makes very nice 1/24 and 1/18 scale die-casts (lots of them are on eBay all the time), and The Franklin Mint makes an outstanding '57 in 1/24 scale which isn't in their catalog, but you can special-order it.
The 1/24 scale Franklin Mint '57 is shown below in their "Garage Diorama", which comes with a '58; my wife got it for me last Christmas, and had the Franklin Mint store manager special-order the '57 (that matches mine) to go with it. I sold the '58 model that came with it here in the classified section a few days later. The interior of the '57 is beige, but the lighting in the picture makes it appear to be tan.

According to the Noland Adams book, the cove for a black '57 would be silver (if it was painted an offset color at all - most weren't). The interior could be red or beige (only 2 black/silver '57s had a beige interior!). The Black/silver combination was the only option for the entire offset cove run of 1956-1961. Apparently black/red never occured, but I'll bet there's somebody out there . . .

John, JohnZ and Mike are correct. However, in addition, there were 3 57's that were painted a "non-standard color, combination, or primer" that no one seems to be able to get a handle on. So, who knows, maybe there was at least one onyx black with a red cove.
