Kyle,
Thanks for the info. I installed a 9" from a Torino in my 54. I narrowed the housing about an 1" on each side if I remember right. I shoved the springs inboard about 3/4" for tire/rim clearance, I am running 17x8 rim with 245/45/17 tires. The modification I did was to the spare tire well. The Torino housing slightly hit the well, so I trimmed it and fixed the glass, and the parking brake cables had to be modified. The whole process has worked well for me. It also has a 327 with a super T10.

Nice info Karpo... I wish the Generals axle's were easy to narrow and
offered the same strength.... 67-72 Pickups came std with the
Dana 44 rear axle.... a pretty stout arangement....Wish the truck 44 was as easy to mod...those trucks are still everywhere in scavengable condition.

Re: 9" Ford into C-1
Put a 9" from a 1971 Mach 1 in my C-1. Worked like a charm. I believe the width is 61-1/4" which is fairly close to the stock C-1 rear so no narrowing is required. The spring perches needed to be relocated so I replaced them with perches from Moroso and maintained the stock pinion angle. The stock driveshat will even work as long as you are using a third member with the 1300 series yoke. You will need to use a combination u-joint which is readily available from Lakewood and others. The rear does come close to the spare tire well but does not make contact. I am certain this will vary from car to car due to spring arch and/or condition.

It was easier for me to have one built from scratch. Purchase the 9" center housing, the tubes to be cut to length, the perches and the ends. Most of my stuff came from Moser. Also had them make the axles. After it was all put together. I took the unit home, bolted it in and popped in the Moser center section with 3:50 gears. You can take the dimensions from your stock rear and use that to make the 9" unit

You can get any width housing you want based on what type of wheels you want to use. My black car, I wanted an old school 60s look, the tires stick out several inches. My red car I wanted to use 1993 ZL1 stock size wheels all around and place them inside the fenders. On that housing I widened the housing way more then the stock to get that result.
Black car 10 " out side body
Red car 13" inside body.
