I have two. I do not know if this is original but I do feel better about having a backup.

Mine also had two, however my mechanic suggested that two
increases the tension in that area and can cause some type of internal damage to the carb over time. Maybe someone else can explain in more detail. I just run one now and carry a spare.

If the one spring is in good condition, not fatigued, I don't see any reason for the second. Now if you are a racer with heavy duty s-it, maybe a second one to make sure the throttle returns in case there is some kind of issue

I always use 2. Although 1 is the original design, for a few bucks why not put 2 on and have the extra protection?

I watched a friend flip and roll their split-window when a carb spring failed, allowing the engine vacuum to suck the carb wide open.

Jeff, that's scary. Where does the second one mount? Bill

Usually it's mounted the same way, just has a wider spring and the original goes inside.

belt and suspenders = I have 3

The third one pulls under to the rear in order to balance the pair pulling to the front and thereby minimize throttle shaft wear on the housing.

Black Magic, That is beautiful, hard to see the springs with all that chrome. NICE job. I'm going to my FLAP store to get a smaller diameter spring to fit inside the large one I have. Thanks to all for your input. Bill.
