That's such a great story, I will not bust on the previous poster for bringing up an 8+ year old thread. Something that good DESERVES to be heard again.

I came to this forum only 2 years ago, so this is a new thread for me. And one of the best so far. Thanks for reviving it!!

C2 of Year Finalist (track prepared) 2019
Thanks, Guys! Nice to know the story of that day 42 years ago can still bring a smile. It does to me.
To midyear: Thanks for the update on the Dallas drag strip. I didn't know it was gone.
To Chris: Yes, lots of annoyed racers that day. We were there on a lark; they came to win.
To Pat: You've seen the '54, haven't you? We bring it to the Riebes show every so often.

I had a similar experience in about 1971. I was running my enderly injected D/Gas 68 Camaro in what was called the National Gasser Event at the Rockford/Byron track. In the morning time trials, I ran up againse a 54 Corvette that had a modified 6 cyl and was running in some much lower M/P class. Same deal. I still remember sitting on the line waiting what seemed like forever while he putted away. (he beat me)
I know he won a few NHRA National events with that car. I still remember, it was called Apricot Brandy.

When I used to run at Dallas, it was already 1/8 mile (80's) I was (and still am) a Pontiac nut, so my buddy's and I ran mostly Pontiac's back then. attached is a pic of my buddy's 81 turbo TA at Dallas circa 1988, probably have more pics from there but will have to dig. used to run a 75 TA that was a daily driver and ran 7.30's all day at dallas, and we had a 65 GTO street car that ran consistent 6.70's. still have a 68 GTO that runs 6.10's in the 1/8 on motor, about a second quicker on N2O, but its not much of a driver.

I think I'll try to make it!
