This will expose my age, but who here remembers using brake fluid for tire dressing in the 60's/70's. The parts store didn't have an aisle full of choices, and we didn't have Wallmarts. Brake fluid was only good for the day of the car show, or a Friday night cruise, but it worked.

"Back in the day"...I remember a friend of mine using Lemon Pledge on the car paint finish itself. It worked great...but after a year or so...it totally ruined his paint job. I'm glad I never took his advise about using it.

Back where I come from we used Pledge either lemon or regular Pledge back during the 60's on tires, Dash and door panels, even on vinyl tops it worked so well. Didn't last long on the outside but looked just right after giving a car a wash down and drying it. Held up pretty darn well in the interior though. Even tried Pledge on my Motorcycle seat back in the day. Looked nice but I don't recommend it since you will slide ride off the seat. Very dangerous!

Pledge Formula Change
I too used it on all my car interiors, but read last year that the formula had recently changed. They removed the wax content, I recall. Does anyone know about this???

Hadn't heard that but will check with a friend who works for SC Johnson and see if he can find out.

If I were going out for an afternoon of fishing or pleasure-riding (we generally fished at night), I would apply Lemon Pledge to the fiberglass surfaces on my bass-boat. Though it didn't last that long it sure would make the metal-flake really sparkle like nothing else.

Back in the 60's and 70's, many of us used Lemon Pledge to wipe down our cars, like a quick wax treatment before car shows.
It would give it a slick shine, that lasted for 10 or so hours.
NEVER did any damage to the paint.
This was WAY before the "quick detailer" products.
I still use it on the interior of my cars.
