Went to a car show sunday ,came home and somehow managed to get bird poop on rear of my car, and did'nt notice it until today. washed it off and it looks like the acid from the poop got into the paint. After using mild polishing compound, the defect is still there. I'm wondering if I should wet sand it with 2000+ sandpaper or would I be better of using emory cloth, any suggestions?
Scott
Depends on paint condition, type of paint, color, original paint, SS, BC/CC
I wouldn't use emory cloth, If you can not feel that it went deep into paint try a hand rubbing compound, keep checking how much paint is comming off. When it feel smothe go to polishing wax. If it's a newer BC/CC you can try a 2000 /2500 wet sand then polishing wax

Try a clay bar before you get into any type of wet sanding. It removes most contaminants from the paint. Use a spray lubricant and glide the clay bar gently over the paint. Mother's has a nice over the counter kit available at Auto Zone and other parts stores. It may work but bird poop is tough if it's been there a while. I would follow it up with a cleaner polish like Zaino ZPC Fusion and go to a progressively finer polish. Good luck
WOW, must have been some really bad poop! Usually if you remove it in a couple of days and lightly polish the area it all comes out. Especially if you have a cc/bc paint job. I would use a little rubbing compound followed by a scratch remover followed by a polish followed by a wax. You, if anyone, should be the only one to notice any residue. Good luck!
