Fuel Filter for My Hard Fuel Line???
I cannot for the life of me find a fuel filter that will work with the hard lines. Here is what I have so far... the line is coming along, but I need to incorporate a filter somewhere. Ideally I would like something that fits vertically as the line leaves the pump and goes up the engine. The FRAM I have now requires multiple adapters for the 3/8" line.. here is the monstrosity:
That is just crazy.. isn't there anything out there that has 3/8" female inverted flares already incorporated?? Or at least requires less adapters? I would also like to use something thinner..

I used one of these 100 micron filters (p/n 5010) when I went with 3/8" hard line, but they connect to "AN" flared ends (37 degree flare). Maybe something here will work for you.

Edit: I corrected the p/n I used to the 6AN version (3/8" line).

If you trying to use a 5/16" steel line, the original type GF-90 with inverted flare fittings is being reproduced. You could maybe use it in the vertical plane from the pump to the carb. You could also frame mount a filter by the pump between the fuel inlet line and the pump. I saw some Fram filters today hanging on the rack in Auto Zone that had the inlet/outlet in the same end with hose nipples on them. You can put the filter back at the tank. Lots of choices.

Here's another option that you can get in a variety of fitting combinations.
I got it from Jegs ===>> Click Here

I'm in the same boat myself. I think I may go back to 5/16 line with the adapters at the fuel pump and carb. Right now I'm using an in line Fram with 3/8 nipples and 2 short lengths of rubber fuel line to splice it into my hard line. Here's a link I've been looking at that may help you. Lots of information on this page. Go to the link for "How to build a fuel line."

next question is.. how close can the external filter (if I use one) be to the head? Current clearance is 1/8".
I changed the placement of the filter, and have to redo one of the lines.. but I have about 1" clearance on the filter now.. Here are some pics so far. Look how I am plumbing the Y block. Is there any problem with doing it this way? I can't help but think that the fuel won't flow correctly.. or am I wrong?

What is preventing you from using it as it should be? I wouldn't think it would be a problem to run it the way you have but I would verify that it doesn't cause a reduction in fuel volume to your primary fuel bowl.
Personally I don't like those compression fittings that you are using after the pump.

Looks like you have the rubber heater hoses against the filter. If so, that is not what you want to do. Need an air gap (larger the better) all around the filter and lines (to minimize heat transfer to the filter housing). Either relocate the hoses, of the filter position.

Filter under the car?
Why not put the filter next to the frame where the line
comes out of the tank? Have never had a problem with mine.
You can put a large filter here and forget about it. I just want
to stop the stuff that I pump into it.
If the fuel pump fails and creates trash then the car will stop
anyway.

Summit carries an adjustable carb inlet line with a built in filter that might work. Jerry
