Default Overheating Problem Solved

I have had my 65 327, 350 for two years. It always had overheating issues at 230*. I replaced the old radiator with a high efficiency copper brass radiator. Then I replaced the water pump with a high flow pump with its corresponding thermostat. After that I replaced the fan clutch with a NAPA unit. It still ran hot hot at 230*. After reading some Archive Threads, I decided to change the radiator again, this time with the factory correct Dewitt's stacked aluminum radiator. I helped a great deal. The temp at the thermostat housing with the IR gun read at 215* to 220*. I then decided to replace the radiator fan with a composite six bladed flex fan. This brought the temp down another 5* to 10*. Although I was happier with the current temp, I did not care for the looks of the plastic fan. At this point I decided to pay a visit to my local Pick A Part Salvage Yard. There I found a mid 70s El Camino with a 18 3/4 inch diameter 7 bladed fan with its clutch. I then installed the combo in my vette. This was amazing. After running for one hour, while sitting in my driveway, the temp did not move past 185*. I was impressed.
This is the best $20 I have ever spent on my Vette.

I like your creativity and your trouble shooting. Junk Yards are Sacred Grounds; almost.

Correct fan and fan clutch makes all the difference. I replaced the fan clutch on one of my vehicles and it still ran hot. Found out it was a non-thermal clutch. Replaced it with a thermal unit and problem solved.
Glad you got it figured out. Sometimes thing like this can drive a guy to the beer box.

If all else fails, use the factory-designed parts - where have I heard that before?

Glad you got it surrounded.

I just got my Vette in June and it never had an overheating issue as I knew the car's history. I know it was unbearable in the cockpit on a 90 degree day so in my limited capacity of mechanics I figured a solid flex fan would keep the air flowing when stopped and look good with my aluminum pulleys etc. EVERYBODY said you will hate the noise. I got the Flexalite Fan from Summit and EVERYBODY says I don't hear any fan noise ???? and it seems to have made it a little cooler on the inside. Now 170 degrees on a 70 degree day is all I can get sitting and idling. DeWitt was put in it 5 years ago and I believe it is a brass one.
