XP-700 Owners Photos And/Or Stories
Okay, the solid axle guys may hate me for this one, but here goes. No doubt that the '58-'62 Corvette in stock form is a great looking car. But when I look through old photos of period customs I always enjoy the XP-700 goofy-*** front end conversion that was available as a custom modification/less expensive front damage repair. There was a recent article in the NCRS Restorer about a restored '59-'60 that had a XP-700 front end at one time. The stock restored car looked great but the old photos were pretty cool, especially with the '66-'67 GTO parklamps fitted. My long winded question is this: Does anyone have a Corvette that still has an XP-700 front end ? I would love to see some photos and if not on a current car, maybe some photos of cars that had them in the past. Post away, I'm sure that a lot of us would get a kick out of it !

Hard to find any today for two reasons:
1. The long nose was even MORE susceptible to front end crunch than stock, no bumpers!
2. The resale market for stock C1s has caused even mild customs to be "restored".
I'd like to see 'em too. Especially with bubble tops (Saw one street-driven once as a kid).

I had one back in the early 70s when I lived in the Pittsburgh area. When I bought it, it was in primer with a 427 engine. I painted it lemans blue to match my 69 Chevelle and installed a 283 from a 60 Corvette. I sold it to a girl several years later and it still had that distinctive (read ugly) front end on it.

Bun Man, is this your car ? What's the story with it (and from that photo that you provided there must be a story. Interesting angle on the ad (almost flattering) but creepy as hell in the dead on shot !

No, not my car. It belonged to a forum member and I posted up a pic for him. He did have a story about the car, but I can't remember his name. You might get lucky with a search using my name.

rayvaflav, that was my car from 1970-72. A 62 that had been in a frontal collision. I was about to turn 17 and that's what I could afford. I paid $900 for it(and that was probably too much at the time). The pic was taken just a few days after I bought it.
It was a 300 horse 327 with a 3 speed. All stock from the cowl back, butt ugly from the front. I did have alot of fun with it, and of course wish I had it now to take back to stock appearance.

There are a couple of photos on Moroso's Racing site. The car was owned by a good friend of mine & Dick's - Hank Dietrich. He bought one when he crunched the front end on his '59. Cost at the time (early 60s) was about $300.

Hey there. Sorry to revive a 4 year old thread, just thought I'd add my XP-700 pics and story. My dad bought this 62 back in 1969, already mildly modified in the front end. Not sure if it had been crashed and sorta rigged back together before he bought it (front openings all closed up, as seen in pic 2), but he elected to do a XP-700 front end some time in the mid to late 70's. I believe he bought it from Eckler's, but I don't know for sure. Last 2 pics show how it looks today, I haven't really done anything to the car other than drive it and maintain it. Dad died in 1982 back when I was 4, so now I debate back and forth from "do I restore the car to original, or leave it as dad built it?" It needs paint pretty bad (still decent from 20' or so), so I kinda need to decide which nose I want on it first. But I don't really have the budget to do anything right now, other than keep it on the road and enjoy it.

We just bought this '59 with an XP700 front and are looking for any history or someone who might recognize the car. I'm curious if it could be the Hank Dietrich "Performance Automotive" car? It does appear to have been originally white with a red interior. At some point in the 60's or 70's it was painted metalflake green and the interior was done over in white tuck & roll. It lived near Gettysburg PA for the last 40 years or so.

Nice to see another XP700 come out of hiding. Sorry, I don't have any tips on the origin of yours.
I just put mine into hiding for the winter the other day. Early this year, but I just moved from IL to MI, I'll move the car up here next year. Got a chance to store it in my boss's ultra-secure location amongst some of his collection. Had to take it.
Looks like I need to fix my links to the pics in my older post... dang internet.
