I believe I have seen one - sort of a long bent-shafted wrench but I don't have a picture of it handy. I also have 2X4 WCFBs and a short 1/4" box end wrench used to adjust the mixture from the passenger side of the car works fine. You should only be turning these screws 1/4 turn at a time max..then blip the throttle and let the engine settle down and observe the vacuum gauge. There is no need to be fast.

The tool I was thinking of was to adjust dwell through the little push up window on old GM distributor caps. (Duh!)

I don't believe there is a special tool for adjusting idle speed/mixture on these old Carters. See the top image in the first picture from the old manual that I have. The special tool is a screwdriver.

The second image shows the 4-bbl Carter special tool kit - although its hard to see the tools are wire gauges for measuring adjustments, special wrenches for bending linkage, float setting templates and some others. There is nothing in this toolkit (as it is used throughout the manual) specially made to adjust idle speed/mixture. I looked through two other old manuals (one specifically for 2X4 setups) I have on these carbs and again, no special tool is indicated for mixture adjustment.

I say again - I use a short 1/4" box end for this task and it works fine. Tedious, but it does work.

If my answer doesn't satisfy you then email Bob Kunz, THE Carter WCFB guru and ask about it: bobkunz@att.net
Let us know what he says.

i don't have a picture of one and i believe mine is with my boat 100 miles away....anyway it is about 18" long and has a flexible shaft inside a rubber casing and an adjustment **** on the end that is knurled with an index arrow...you might check with a snap on tool guy . or maybe an auto parts store might have a similar one....sorry

There are tools out there that can 'turn the corner' such as this. Unfortunately you'd have to find one like this on ebay or such as I don't think they are available any longer.

I stand corrected - there are some generic GM/Chrysler carb adjustment tools out there:

Its flexible with a 1/4" hex adapter but I can't see details in the cr@ppy picture:

It looks like the tool pictured in the last post - the little adapters store in the hollow handle...

That's what I've been using for 30 years. It's way better than messing with a 1/4" wrench.
