Oil Line Mystery

Oil Line Mystery
I am restoring a 64 corvette with a 327 300 HP with Power Glide. I did not take my car apart but I am putting it back together. I have a mysterious hole in my block just above the casting for the oil filter which is 1/2 in in diameter and not threaded. I can see the oil filter canister bolt inside the block. What is this hole for and how does one close it?

That's the outboard end of the main oil gallery - that hole should have a steel cup plug in it; don't recall the size offhand. See photo below.

Melting Slicks
Like John I don't recall the size either
but it's the same as the 3 gallery cup plugs on the front of the block.
When you put it in, use a sealant. I had a pretty good leak when I installed one dry. Used red loctite on the second attempt and it is bone dry 500 miles later.
