Yes, I have a 60 with a 5 blade fan, stock shroud and a fan clutch. I am not NCRS so I bought my fan clutch at Advanced Auto for $36.99 part# 215012

Stratplus,

1. Just so I'm clear, are you saying that the Advance Auto p/n 215012 fan clutch will accommodate the 5 blade 60-62 fan and that the whole enchilada will fit in the '59 shroud?

Reason I ask is that I'm considering doing this for my '62. But only if I don't have to make other changes. I'm looking for a true "bolt-on.*"

2. Do you know what temperature the 215012 kicks in at?

3. Is it as quiet as the stock clutch fan?

*Greatest lies
1. They all do that.
2. It's plug and play.
3. We're aware of that "feature" and it'll be fixed in the next release.
4. Check's in the mail.

The long answer - If you still have the 59 fan shroud, the change will put the fan too far inside the shroud. In 1960, they changed the fan shroud, making it much shallower. The reason is the clutch assembly moved the fan approx. 2 1/2" forward and the fan needs to be flush with the opening to work correctly. If you had a 1960 without the clutch fan, it will have a spacer that moves the fan forward the correct amount. In 1960, it was an option. 61 on up, standard equipment.

The short answer - no, it won't work.

Take a look at 1snakes post.

Yes, I am saying it will accommodate it and bolt right in, but I did not know that 59 to 60 had a change in the shroud size as 1sanke mentioned.

My fan is about an 1" in the shroud.

The clutch is quiet, but I don't know how it compares to the original.

Based on previous postings I think it kicks in around 200-205. I moved the spring so that it kicks in earlier. There are some earlier forum posts that talk about moving the spring.

I don't know if advanced ships, I have one down the street from me so I stop in.

Default Fan shroud

I have a 1960 , when it came out of the factory the car had the base 230 H.P. engine . It did not have the optional fan clutch . I wanted one so I added the fan clutch . The ideal situation is to have the fan half way into the shroud [ half of the fan is sticking out of the shroud , if you look at it from the side] [ I learned this from John Z.] You dont want it all the way into the shroud because the air comes out of shroud like a bullet , the air hits the engine straight on , which in turn sets up a turbulance and sometimes the turbulance is so great some of the air gets pushed up on top of the radiator and then gets sucked into the radiator again. THE AIR DOESN't KNOW WHERE TO GO. The best location for the fan is half way into the shroud because the curvature of the blade throws 50% of the air to the right of the engine and 50% of the air gets thrown to the left of the engine. THE AIR KNOWS WHERE TO GO , WITH NO TURBULANCE.
BY the way , my fan does not go into the shroud far enough,[ not half way ], the width of my shroud is narrower than a car that is equipped with the optional fan clutch car which is wider looking it from the side. At Carlisle I saw cars with the deeper shrouds. There are definately deeper shrouds on the 60's Vettes. I wish mine went in -one inch more , I cannot add a spacerto the fan mount because the front sway bar is in the way.
My car has Zero problems with cooling, I have a Dewitt's alum. radiator.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say but, 1959's had a different shroud than the 1960 and never had a clutch fan. The 1960's only had one shroud regardless of whether it had the optional clutch fan or not.

My ' 60 fan shroud must have been changed then, by someone, I am not sure, but I have a feeling that some of the '60 cars had the '59 shrouds because the temperature controlled radiator fans were an option in '60. Option # 121. 2,711 T.C.R.F. left the factory. My car was built in February.

I've never heard of any 60 cars with 59 shrouds. It's not mentioned in the NCRS judging guide either. Mine was built 2-12-1960. It has the clutch fan, aluminum top tank radiator and the correct shroud. My buddies 60 was built late Sept. 59 with clutch fan, brass radiator and the same shroud as mine.

I double checked the judging manual and it states that possibly some late 59's may have come with the 1960 shroud. It appears the change over was done at or before the beginning of the 1960 model year.
