Default '60.. weird coolant leak??

I dorve my '60 about 100 miles last weekend and it has a coolant leak that I can't see. It got a little splashed on the hood, some on the motor mount.
I tried a pressure tester and it held 13lbs pressure without any leaks for 5 minutes.
Could the water pump be barely drooling?? Rotten gasket? This leak isn't much, but its making a mess.

Could be coming out of the weep hole on the bottom of the pump, or between the pump and the mount, or the mount and the block.

I had a small leak come from the steel plate that covers the impeller. Happened after a well-known pump restorer rebuilt it. I installed it without checking the bolts on the plate. Sure enough, just a little drip-drip. Had to take the pump off and found one bolt barely snug. Tightened it up and no more leak.

Good call. I bought a rebuilt pump from a forum supporting vendor, and I too found loose bolts. Fortunately though, I found/fixed them before I installed the pump on my 62.

Good place to start.

Loosen the belt(s) and give the pump shaft a wiggle. Any felt play would indicate the leak source.

Years ago our circle track car would leak all week in the garage and on race night, once it got warmed up, would not leak all evening. Pump shaft was loose but it never threw a belt (captured) so we left it alone.

I would begin by tightening the the pump mounting bolts. My best bet if all the hose connections are secure, could be leaking at the front plate gaskets when the engine is at temp and moves. You may have to drop the pump and change the gaskets and possibly even the plate if it's corroded, just tightening may be enough though.

Good luck,

Paul

Always a good idea to check nuts and bolts for tightness before using any part. Having said that next time I'll probably brain f rt and forget.

Yup, I'd bet it's leaking from the gaskets at the plate. When it's good and hot, take it for a drive and give it a few good shots to get the motor to torque against the plate, you'll probably find your leak(s).
