Sweet!
John...in looking through the pics I took at Duntov a year ago, I think the #14 is the same car they ran in Tasmania with a fresh paint job.....

I wonder if Superformance will be using these molds. If so, you can expect the majority of GS replicas to look like that.

It's sad and I don't think the Grand Sport deserves that image. I really hope they do start using correct molds.
This may answer the question - taken from the web site http://www.duntovmotors.com/about.php

"Duntov Motor Company has partnered with Superformance, LLC of Irvine, California for the production and distribution of the street roller version of the GM licensed Grand Sport."

A picture of the GS from the Superformance web site doesn't show the dropped nose that I have been told in the past was done to reduce body lift. They are probably going to produce a regular nose for the street version but it bears getting an answer from Superformance/Duntov.

Bill,

The two cars on the page referenced by your link above are both from Mid America and are owned by Rick Costa. Brian (aworks) built the Penske roadster. IOW, neither is representative of a Superformance kit car.

Goodstuff John! I remember those days well.

Below are some pics of the most severe droop-nose (and ***) GS bodywork I've ever seen.

And now, here's the car I believe became GS#14. This is the Duntov car that ran in Tasmania. I think it was repainted and the side-pipe covers were removed (among other things).

Note the radical nose droop.

I think GS 003's body was altered but it is no were near what Duntov Motor Company has as far as nose droop.

The Duntov roadster which they claim was built using the molds from 002 is just simply untrue. You can easily tell with a photo comparison. GS 014 certainly wasn't built using any molds from any of the originals and it is not correct at all. GS 014 from DMC just looks like a cartoon of a Grand Sport.

Bob Paterson commissioned the alterations to #003 several decades ago.

He and I were discussing the high speed lift problem once upon a time. I was just getting fast enough in my Grand Sport that it was becoming an issue and I wanted his perspective. I pointed out that his car looked "different". He winked and said, "now you're catching on."

To my eye, his former ride still looks "different", but it's sufficiently subtle you have to study it to see what's "different".

I agree and thanks for the tidbit off history Jim. I must say though that I love the aluminum front splitter in the first photo of 003, it looks great. Makes you wonder why they didn't do something like that in 1963.

It's been a couple of years since I've seen #003 so the photo of it with a splitter/spoiler really caught me off guard. I know the vintage racing rules out here on the left coast and I can't think of any club with which Larry Bowman would run the car that would permit him to use the splitter/spoiler. It's presence in that photo just boggles my mind.

Wonder if we are going to get straight answers from Duntov on the real origin of the body molds they are using.

I believe they posted a response to a question I had a few months ago, and their reply was that the drooped nose and tail were changes they made to improve downforce and high speed stability.

A lot of negative talk about the Duntov GS about it not beeing molded from original molds etc.
If i was to buy a GS i supposed i would have a car as close to the original as possible.

But i have to say that the car looks so tuff

So what do the GS people here think?
Forget about originality but have a look at the picture Is it tuff or not?

The coulor scheme on the car posted here is great

For that kind of money you would think that the door panels would be straight. With the rear flares cut so high and not covering the rear tire, spray will be a problem on a wet road. Of course those are just the observations of a po' boy not in this league.

Except for the fact that it doesn't have Rat Fink protruding from it's roof, the car looks like something Big Daddy Roth dreamed up.
I look at mine everyday, and I've been a Grand Sport afficianado since 1964. I think the supposed #14 car looks like it was sitting in a hot warehouse and warped.
"Rough" is more descriptive term than "tuff" from my vantage point.

I'm not a fan of the droopy nosed creations.

BTW, just got my GS project going again, will have big update coming up soon...

I don't like the droopy nose. I think a continuation should be just like the originals. My thing with Duntovs cars is they are claiming and ADVERTISIZNG that they are using molds from original GS 002. Which is untrue.

The light blue GS is GS 002. The body you see is a reproduction body using molds pulled from the original 002. If they are using this mold then the body should look exactly like this one. Notice how the front is very straight.

And here is the car they said used the same mold. Looks very different for using the same mold doesn't it. Nose is drooped and other things.
