ZF Transmission
Doing upgrade to 66 small block. Plan to use 350 (383stroker) and 6 speed transmission. Purchased a ZF transmission. Could not find anyone in the Houston area that would work on it (inspect gears, replace seals, general refurbish, etc). Will it take a special Bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, throwout bearing to mate the 350 with the ZF? Anyone offer a kit for the project? Is the ZF that big of a problem to rebuild? Any shops offer remanufactured ZF's. Should I can the ZF idea and go with the T56. The ZF is a more reliable gearbox.

A ZF six speed was used in the late C-4's. If you have one of them, it fits the engine, but may not clear the transmission tunnel, mount to the cross member or have the shifter come out in the right place. Its a wonderful transmission though. I loved it in my 92! As to rebuilders, try the C-4 forum or look for an independent shop that services German cars. Good luck and let us know if it fits!
Edit: ZF in the C-4 used a "pull clutch" so you will have to cobble up a hydraulic clutch mechanism to use it...

ZF 6speed
Don't do it... buy a TKO 600 and use that, I have a c4 race car, and a 67.. both in bits right now the TKO 5 speed is sat next to eht ZF 6 speed and is about 60% the size of the ZF... It wont fit without a bunch of work including a total remodel of the transmission tunnel...Good luck if you decide to do this.

You won't find a lot of shops that can rebuild a ZF 6-speed properly; the parts are horrendously expensive and hard to find, and the basic special tools required to rebuild a ZF run about $3500.00.
