Dave are you looking for a pic of the slot in the frame or the actual mount that is attached to the pipe?

Both would be a plus but either would help.

Thanks Ken. No screaming rush.

I'm just a little confused about where it attaches. The assembly manual for the 64 doesn't cover it.

63's and 64's did not come stock with side pipes so there will be no 'keyhole' attach point. Two things you can do; 1) cut the keyhole in the bottom of the frame from later vette drawings or 2) install your side pipes using a jack or wood to put the rear of the side pipe into position, mark and then weld a grade 8 bolt to the bottom of the frame. I did the latter and my side pipes have been on for years with no issues. You can always cut the bolt off and grind the weld off if you ever want to go back stock.

Thanks Ken. No rush on this. I know it's kinda wet over on your side of the hill. I shoveled some this morning and there's more on the way.

Is the slot centered in bottom of the frame rail?

Distance from the aft end of the frame rail to the aft end of the key slot?

Length of the key slot?

I like the idea of welding in the bolt per Master Dave and will look at that possibility.

On my '63, I just drilled a hole and tapped it for a bolt. I used some Loctite and it has been fine so far.

I will measure for you tonight. The only problem I see with welding a bolt to the frame is no room for any changes if you add headers or need wiggle room.

Yeah, that material used in the frame is some real American steel. The few holes that I've had to drill are a bear without a new carbide drill (or maybe it's just that I'm getting old and weak)

I might also run a carriage bolt. I can cut a slot in the bottom then drop the bolt it through one of the slots in the side of the frame. I'll have a look/see if it's possible.

Holy cow...how did I miss that post??? Looking good Dave, should only take you another couple of weeks to get it running, right? Heck, you'll probably have yours out before mines done...man, parts take a long time to get...still receiving parts I ordered in December, and all are not in...what's the old expression..."all good things come to those who wait..." we must be getting good things cuz the wait is a killer...good thing the weather is cooperating by keeping us indoors...if the sun was shining the the roads were dry...I'd really be chomping at the bit...

It's always something, you know that. I have things to do on the chassis yet, like put the tank on this weekend and be pissed about the fact that the shorty headers don't fit stock sidepipes worth a darn. So, ordered some Hedman long tubes that tie into the sidepipes correctly (didn't want the shorties anyway, but the price was right). Now it will be easier to run the electric cutouts anyway.

Dave, the main large round hole is 3" forward of the rear frame centered on the angled part of the frame. You can see the frame cross member and the rear of the hole almost is in line with the cross member. The hole with slot from end to end is 3" long so you have room for play/adjustment on length of the sidepipe. The hole is about 7/8" diameter and the slot is 1/2" wide. Remember, this is located on the angled part of the rail, not the bottom or side.

Send me your email address and I have the 2 pages of the assembly instructions for a 65 side exhaust from my assembly manual.

Thanks Ken, that's very helpful. I owe you a beer when you come up for Hot August Nights this year.
