Default AFB Choke body piston

I've got a sticking piston in the choke body of my 65 with Carter AFB. Should that piston come out? I can't seem to get it high enough to get it out. It hits the inside lip of the body before it comes out.
Anyone have a choke body with piston for sale? I don't need the spring or cover. Thanks

Here's a picture of the piston that's binding and holding the choke on.

the piston is removed by removing the screw on the linkage inside the choke housing, then you can turn and worry it out of the bore
emory it up and try to clean the bore with a small rifle brush
you can adjust the "break" of the butterfly by bending the tang on the linkage
you can also try to remove the plug in the casting if need be....good luck....

And, here's a pretty detailed rebuild instruction document

Thanks midyearvette, I did remove the screw and when I lift the piston it binds extremely tight at the top and I can't get it out. I can't get enough pull on it to force it higher. It feels like something is maybe warped at the top of the bore cylinder It also looks like the lever that is attached to the piston would hit the inside lip of the choke body before the piston comes out of the bore. I bent the linkage enough to get the choke to work by using the lower part of the bore where it is not binding. It seems to work great as it is now, but I just would feel better if I could fix it like it's supposed to be. I saw one on ebay for $50 plus shipping that I may go for if I don't get this one freed up at the top of the range. Thanks again for your reply.

Thanks Jeff, I have that same file and that is what I'm working from. You may recognize that picture I posted, it's from that Chapter 6 file. It's just that I can't get the piston high enough to clear the cast housing. I'm afraid that I'll break something and be down. Right now it's working by sliding in the lower part of that chamber since I bent the choke linkage enough to keep it out of that upper range.

My mistake. I first checked my 63 corvette service manual and saw that same picture and mistakenly assumed that was your source.

But, I still found a cool PDF I'm adding to my own technical reference library, so it wasn't a total loss!

It is a great file, I found it by accident while searching choke information. I think I might eventually just buy another choke base and replace it. I'm going to a cruise today, so for now it's working fine.

Final resolution. I took the choke body off and forced the piston out. It was very tight and took a lot of force. Sanded down the inside port and polished the piston. Now slides very freely and choke and fast idle work great.
