Default Ignition Coil question

Car: 64 327/365 (L76)

I am looking for a replacement coil that will fit under the original shielding without crushing the primary coil lead to the distributor. Most FLAPS replacement coils are too tall.

There are a number of Corvette parts vendors selling one coil that is labeled for use in 63-74 model years, and other vendors that have different coils for specific years and horsepower ratings.

I would rather not spend $90 for a replacement coil, but I don't want to spend $40 for a coil that won't fit either.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks.

On a '64 L-76, the correct coil depends when your car was built. Cars built prior to January used the 1115091 coil with the 0.3 ohm ballast resistor, and cars built from January on used the 1115087 coil with the 1.8 ohm ballast resistor.

The Echlin coil from NAPA used to be same size as Delco. Don't know if it still is.

How about 90* terminals on your coil wire instead of straight?

Thanks John.
Mike, I thought about that also. I need a new coil, so I figured I'd try to get one that fits correctly.

Standard Motor Parts replacement equivalent is UC12 coil. Dont know if there are shielding fitment issues.

I've got one that will fit. It came off my '64 and I have the shielding. It is an original Delco-Remy. The case is marked 293 and the next line is marked B-R or maybe 8-R. It worked fine when I pulled it off and the resistance across the terminals reads ~2.1 ohms.

I don't know if this was original to the car or a GM replacement. Maybe someone knows how to interpret the numbers and we can go from there.

I have a UC-12 as the shelf backup for the 202 on my '67; no height issues, but it's slightly larger in diameter (still fits in the clamp).

When it's handy, if you could measure the height, that would be helpful.

Thanks.
