Default Do you have a ZZ4 or ZZ383 in your C1?

I've kinda decided to put a new GM engine in my 60 C1 vette. If you
have experience with a ZZ4 or ZZ383 for the C1 chassis I could use
recommendations on headers, intake manifold, carb and clutch... let talk!

Hood clearance and heat are my main issues.

I have a 383 stroker in my 61 (not the ZZ crate motor but similar). I used a Speed Demon 650 double pump carb and an Edelbrock performer RPM intake. Drop base air cleaner with a low profile air cleaner and it fits under the stock hood. I am running stock exhaust manifolds. The car is a blast to drive. Make sure your exhaust, tires, suspension and brakes are up to the task of the additional horsies. You will enjoy the big block like torque

I'll be purchasing a new engine...the intake/exhaust port designs I believe are different than the older heads thus requiring different manifolds. I'm hoping to get owner feedback for 'off-the-shelf' brand new ZZ engines for that reason. What clutch do you have... any negative issues?

I think the exhaust manifolds are the same as the older smallblocks. The intake on zz383 uses the vortec style, I think the zz4 uses the older style intakes.

I put a Centerforce dual friction clutch in shortly after it became apparent the stock clutch couldn't handle the power. Great clutch.

The only negative is that I can't seem to wipe the grin off my face

It's been 10 years for the ZZ4, but the exhaust manifold (feulie) hooked right up; hadda buy an intake manifold...also a long shaft (or short shaft) water pump to replace the short shaft (or long shaft) that came with it. I TOLD you it was TEN years ago!

Sounds like you have a ZZ4 in your C1.... Which intake manifold do you use, carb
and clutch set up? Did you need an electric fan and aluminum radiator? Any
temperature related problems in hot weather or traffic?

I have a ZZ4 in my 1960 C1. I went with the following:
1) Dewitts AL radiator and flex fan - left original shrouds - never overheats
2) Fuel - Edelbrock dual quad with original dual quad air cleaner - two 500 cfm's are too much fuel for this motor at WOT but feels like a nitrous kick
3) 2.5" RAM horns ported to match the heads - did this to retain the generator and added a 61 puke tank to the drivers side
4) MSD ready to run distributor
5) Short water pump
6) Centerforce dual friction clutch - 11" - 621 bellhousing - need a new balanced flywheel for ZZ4
7) TKO600 5 speed - works great with this motor
8) PVC valve in valve covers - had to buy a special made cover for the heads because of center bolt hole - original valve covers with adapter leak

Look at "My Corvette Photos" near avatar for pics
