I met Eric Gill today
What a totally different experience. I walk out of a local restaurant and there is this guy and his wife walking around my car. I had no idea who he was so I figure its just your average joe shmow looking around. I pop the hood to show them and next thing you know him and his wife start ID'ing date codes and pointing out parts and there years. We got to talking and i come to find out Im having a conversation with a Mr. Z06. Needless to say when I found out his identity, I got worried expecting him to be a NCRS **** and just nitpicking and tearing my car down. And all he has to say were nice things. And his knowledge is unbelievable. Here Eric is informing me about my car and I was expecting just your averge guy who would have asked what kind of engine he was looking at
Needless to say Eric is one hell of a midyear expert.

It didn't click with me immediately either but he is a Z06 historian that knows his stuff He was at the Mecum auction where the Gulf Oil Z06 was auctioned and described it for the auction. That was the car that the Flying Dentist, Dick Thompson drove.

Eric Gill was very helpful to me many years ago (1970s) in identifying my 63 Z06, and sending me articles and advice on it. I've never met him, but anyone who has a Z06 has certainly heard of him.

Safety Car
Eric owns some neat cars. This past January he brought his 1966 coupe race car that Dave Heinz and Tod Oosid raced at Daytona in 66 to the NCRS FLORIDA REGIONAL. It was one of what we think is one of nine (1 of 9) cars made with special attention to driveline race engineering items (like forerunner to the L-88 that appeared in sale form in 1967). The car is the original body and chassis, untouched and never seen by anybody in 35 years.
Eric is "sharing"........which is really neat. He and Franz Estereicher say they are going to write a book about these special cars. Not all LEGENDS are noisy people.

He sounds like a great guy and I'd love someone like him for a neighbor.

I started a 1963 Corvette Registry in the mid-1970s. After I sold the '63 I had, I lost interest in doing it and Eric Gill took it over from me. We lost touch after that but I would love to get in touch with him again. Does anyone know how to contact him or find him? I assume he still lives in Florida.

I think a whole lot of "NCRS *****" get a bad rap. Most of these folks are just hobbyists that march to different standards. I've learned a ton from the "correctness commandos" even though I'm not a fanatic about every crayon mark and what is 'flash chromed' and what isn't...

Very Cool... I bought my 63 SWC from Eric back in the mid 70's... it was a silver/red 340 car that I never finished since I got married bought a house had a kid and needed furniture.. Bummer for sure, but Eric lived 2 towns away from me and was a great help.. His mom and dad were great people and Eric is a real gentlemen.. If I'm correct at the time I bought my car he had (not sure) a Z06 that raced at lemans...He had all of the documentation from the car and pictures of it at Lemans.. What was even cooler was when he took me up in his attic!! he had more parts and fulie units and stuff than I had ever seen.. It was Carlisle in his attic.. I also used his body guy (Lou Metz) to do the body work on the car as it had a shark nose...I lost touch with him when he moved to Daytona and know that his dad had passed some years ago.. I remember him as a down to earth but private guy... Jim if its ok could you please pm me his contact info.. I'd like to reach out to him again..
