Go to Uratchko Racing .com to see a 69 Camaro with a big block Ford. Also some good dyno runs.

I couldn't find it. Was that "Uradumdazz Racing"? Reminds me of a great story. Back in 1970, my buddy bought a brand new 428 CJ Mustang and was bragging how fast it was. The local drag strip had Friday night grudge drags so away we went. I beat him 3 out of 3 races by about 3 car lengths each time with a bone stock 66 L79 Nova.

Jim, You are correct. Had my cities mixed up. It's GOOD to be away from Ford all these years. Bill Although my daily driver is a Town Car.

The Cleveland was introduced later but they were produced simultaneously.
And the reason all those Ford hotrods have Chevy motors is because there were plenty of broken down rusted out Chevies in junkyards with cheap motors while their contemporary Fords were still running!
Actually I believe it really was due to oil pans and the location of the sump. Chevy engines would drop right in place of a flathead 8 without major mods while the Ford engine required much more $$$ to make work.
A non FORD hating vette owner!

My 31 has a Ford 302 and it's never left me on the side of the road. I get comments all the time about having the Ford motor. "That's the first ford I've ever seen with a real ford engine."

The reputation of the 351W has benefited greatly just by dint of being the last engine standing and becoming the darling of kit builders over the last couple decades.
If you were building a high hp engine in the 70's the only 351 you wanted was the Cleveland! Why would Ford have chosen the 351C as the basis for the Boss 351 when the 351W was also available if the 351W was the "superior" engine? The 351C was STOUT. All C's had the provision for 4 bolt mains even if they weren't installed at the factory. NO 351W that I know of ever came from the factory with 4 bolt mains in the 60s or 70s although the early castings could have the interior mains modified for 4 bolts.
I remember how depressed I was that my 69 Mustang GT had a 351W and not a Cleveland! I should have bought a 70!
I think the reason the Windsor survived while the Cleveland morphed into the M then faded away can be attributed to two factors - it was lighter when every pound mattered in the dark late 70's and early 80's and the fact that the Windsor family of engines had been in production since 62 while the Cleveland was a johnny come lately from 70.
IMHO..

1. he had a sponsor that had ovals on his shorts
2. Bought it cheap at the strip
3 Couldn't afford a big block Chevrolet engine
4. Motor was disgised when he bought it after a few beers
5. His dad owned the local ford dealership
6. He won the engine in a poker game
7. Didn't have a scatter shield, enter low rpm ford engine
Take your pick.... There is NO good reason to run a ford engine in a gm car.
