Default Clogged Jerk fittings

I did the spring lube on the '61 and have a few clogged zerks that won't take any grease. Is there a way to unclog or remove and clean the zerks? Thanks

They unscrew from whatever it is to which they are attached. Replace them with new ones is the easiest option.

Or if you have a need to retain the current ones, remove them and soak them in a cleaner.

Sometimes it not the fitting that's clogged, it's old hardened grease on the surface of what's being lubed.
In the old days at the gas station, we would raise the air pressure and out comes the old stuff and in with the new.
You may have to find a station that still uses an air grease gun. Bill

I've never seen a fitting plugged, it's always been the hard grease behind it for me. Like Bill says, if you have an air grease gun, it'll put out more pressure than you can get with a hand gun.

On the old king pin front ends, I used to smack the king pin area with a two pound hammer while I held the trigger down on the grease gun. Sometimes, it takes heat on the area to start the grease flowing.

Never seen a zerk that was plugged. The problem was deeper.

It's the "A" arm fittings I am having a problem with. My air gun would not push the grease out. Is there a way to scrape it out or soak it with penetrant?

I have a 10,000psi grease gun... Never had that problem. You don't have to have it turned that high, but there is truly 10,000psi available. It's for heavy equipment applications. High psi grease guns are not hard to find.

Sometimes it just takes some movement of the arm or pivot. Try lifting the wheel up or letting it down.

10k psi, WOW! Don't point that thing at a human.
I can see the coroners report now.
Cause of death: Multiple holes in body caused by hi-pressure grease gun.

Hmmmm, maybe that's the origin of the 30s gangster term to have someone "greased"?

Nah.... works just like a regular grease gun. Doesn't stream like a 'super soaker.' Does little pumps like a regular gun. BUT... you can crank it up for heavy equipment, or in my case... stubborn zerks. Never had one I couldn't grease.

Heat the fitting just enough to melt the old grease.

I'd be worried about popping the seals.

It's like any tool... needs to be used with a bit of finesse... and it is adjustable. A hammer is unsafe if you go nuts with it...
