I predict you'll take your wheels off/on one time and you'll start to get the idea. After a couple more drills with that thing, you'll throw it on the scrap pile.

Count me as old School as well. There is no substitute for a few good whacks from a lead hammer. Too risky to try and get fancy on something that can get you hurt.

Uh oh St., you might want to do an archive search on these types of tool. A lot of folks who had them expressed a real disappointment with them. It stopped me as I was about to buy a used one.

Personally, its "Hammer Time" !

For me I use my 6 pound lead hammer and smack the snott out of them and then hit them a couple of more times for good measure. Then I use a marking pen and mark one of the ears and its relationship to the wheel lip. Every time I climb, (I'm getting older),out I do a walk around and check them for any movement.

With just a 4 lb. hammer I can get the knock off spinners on my bride's track car tighter than I can get them with a custom spanner wrench with a 6 foot bar:

So I'd be pretty uncomfortable having to depend on just a wrench.... of virtually any length.

I really cant understand that the chrome on the spinners does not get ruined using a led hammer

Lead is softer than steel; if the steel isn't deformed, neither is the chrome.

I was wary that there would be some wear or scratches on the spinner ears to and I use to lay a thick piece of rawhide on the spinner ear before wacking it. But then one day I got tire of messing with that and just hammered the spinner. Couldn't find a mark on it when I was through. So just wipe any dirt off and hammer away at them.

I've done it both ways Jim and have gone to the wrench to avoid hitting the rim trying to get at the deep inset back wheel knock-off nuts. What I haven't tried is using an air impact wrench - have you done that?

No, Bill, I don't have a way to connect my air wrench to the spanner socket I made. Interesting idea, though.

That takes a BIG impact wrench (torque is 450 ft-lbs.). In the plant, we used a huge 1"-drive Ingersoll-Rand impact, suspended from a balancer, fed by a 1" air line at 100 psi.

Just Google "******-Thumper" and you'll get plenty of hits for it.
