Default GM 8 Water Pump

I pulled this water pump off of the 327 that is in my '63 Corvette. The car has been in storage for the past 36 years and I can't recall if it is the original pump or if I changed it back then. The casting number is 3739483 and it has the bypass fitting in the top of the pump. The pump is in good shape and I was wondering if it is worth having it rebuilt or should I just replace it with a new modern casting.

Can anyone tell me anything about this particular pump?

Thanks, GUSTO

Thanks for the reply... I'll look for a casting date on the pump, but the car was built in September 1962... #396.

I believe the casting # for the 63 model year waterpump is the same as the one used in 62. The 62 casting is #3782609.

Thanks Donald... this pump is definitely not a 609...

Nowhere Man, I can not find any markings on the pump besides the GM 8 and the #3739483... (although it is possible that the 9 is a 0)

It seems likely it is a pump that I installed sometime in the late 60's before putting the car in storage.

Donald, what I thought was a 9 could be a 6 and the 8 could be a 9. If that were the case then clearly it is not original to my '63.

One other interesting thing I've never seen before on a SB water pump is that it has one "weep" hole on top of the shaft and two "weep" holes side-by-side underneath the shaft.

Thanks for your help... GUSTO

Default waterpump for 63 replacement

Its not very complicated. My 63 swc 340 hp was built in October 62, and I recently replaced the original pump with an exact model from Nappa. Cost was $80 for a new one. Original lasted all this time went to leaking slightly at 90000 miles. Kept the old one for rebuild for next owner. Regards, Abe G
