Default Where to send Glovebox Door for Restoration?

I did a search, but did not come up with much.
I just need a new insert, but i need it to be NCRS correct-rivets, insert, etc. I see that Paragon and a few others offer the service, but i like to support the smaller guys.
Thanks

They're not that difficult to do, just a biy of a PIA. The kits come with small allen head screws that you hit the center with a drill bit with after assembling, it really looks pretty much like a rivet again.

Corvette Specialties (formerly) of Maryland does them. They do a great job and are a Furom Sponsor. Unfortunetely, they are moving from Maryland to somewhere on the left coast currently, and have temporarily stopped taking restoration work, until their move is completed.

Do it yourself from the front. No need to mess with drilling and little screws. It only takes about an hour.

If you have a little bit technical ability and a Dremel type tool this is definitely a do-it-yourself project. In a nutshell, you slide your new insert in from the front between the frame and the old insert. You don't tamper with the back of the door at all. For about about $25 and an afternoon of work your door will look new and completely original.

Search "glovebox insert" for detailed instruction.

Thanks! I found this article with google. Interesting technique to preserve the rivets. I was not aware that they were like the gas lid and were initially studs.
Thanks for the tips! I am going to do my best to try to make the door look better with some steel wool before hacking it up, but there is one scratch that is pretty bad.

I did mine myself a few years ago....pretty easy job. The only thing I didn't like was the repro aluminum insert. The finish on it was nothing like the original. The horizontal brush marks were way too heavy, and very obvious. I went ahead and used it, but every time I look at my door, it bothers me. Anybody know if better looking repro inserts are available now, and who sells them?

I tried the "slip it in" method, and followed the directions to the letter but could not keep it from scratching the new one. Bought a second one and did it from the back. In order to keep the tinny sound to a minimum, I put dense foam inside. It's very satisfactory for a driver. Dennis

Chris
If you don't want to do this yourself, I have a friend in Trussville who is an excellent restorer. He has helped me on several things. He rebuilt my headlight motors which were it terrible shape and they looked brand new. PM me if you would like to contact him.

Don't really see how "sliding it in" was an option, my 64 had zero room in there. Me and my dad did this the old fashioned way, although I wouldn't recommend without a drill press, as you can go too far through the old rivets and then your in trouble. I didn't do the hex heads with the drill at the end, but that's what the directions recommended. I am just thinking of RINT (Replacing It Next Time), not NCRS. Good luck.

Corvette Specialties did a excellent job on my glove box door. If your not in a big hurry, why not just wait until they are set up and running in Palm Desert,CA. and give the C2 forum sponser the business???
