I do like your engine and it is probably as close as I can get to my car, but I have restored the car with a great running 327/350 and I toured with it this summer and averaged close to 20 mpg with a 3.08 axle ratio. I know it sounds sacrilegious to drive a real deal big block car with a small block, but I am so far into this car that to spend any more money on it would not make sense. I am long past taking it to the drag strip or even using the performance the small block produces. It is an early car vin 194675S115077. Ironically, the engine I have in the car which is an F0513HU out of a 65 AC car is only 11 digits off your engine for VIN. My engine is out of VIN 5118101 and yours is 5118112. Likely built on the same day. My car is a no option car outside the 396. Cloth top only and radio delete.
I split my time between Phoenix AZ and Ann Arbor, Michigan. I have a 66 coupe (327/350) in Arizona and the convertible stays in Michigan. Sounds backward since I spend summers in Michigan and winters in AZ, but I use the convertible to tour the great lakes and surrounding states, so Michigan is its home.
Let me know if you gain any interest in making a deal for the motor

I just purchased this right before the world went sideways.....65 L78 factory side pipe car, all original born with drive train with tons of paper work from day 1....i cant wait to enjoy it.....sorry not the greatest pictures....these are from the day I picked it up....it was about 45 min from my house.....I was able to hitch a ride with an old Jag that the 65's previous owner was sending in for some service. You will enjoy that car. Just as the initial testers said, "their can be some trauma" on cold starts or hot restarts or low speed running. Mine really likes to run and is happy as long as you do. A boulevardier the L78 is not. Welcome to the club. Our 396 cars don't always garner the same oohs and aahs but I for one think they are far more interesting to talk about.

Thank you Dan!!.....I totally agree with you....I truly love how interesting and unique they are.....they are very special cars. I looked at a few 427 cars of the same caliber before my purchase, but they did not excite me like the 396.

Thanks Mike!!.....I am excited to be part of the club. A little history on the car is back in the early 2000’s it was awarded the Duntov Triple Crown Award, Bloomington Gold, some others and has a recent regional NCRS Top Flight. The restoration was done in lacquer still looks crisp. The interior is all original with the exception of the carpet. The car was optioned with the 396, 4 speed trans, TI ignition, side mount exhaust, full tinted glass, power windows, 370 rear, teak steering wheel, power windows, AM/FM, 775x15 tires and comfort and convenience group. The car has a ton of documentation….Order sheet, owners manual, POP, window sticker, etc….the original owner took delivery at the St. Louis assembly plant and it has all the docs associated with the delivery….letter from St Louis, customer check off sheet, shipper sheet that says St. Louis and some other paper work the owner had to sign at delivery. It has basically sat in a collection for the past 10 plus years. I was able to contact the original owners daughter and she has some pictures from their ownership…..she is going to make me copies….cant wait to see them. The car was well cared for thru its life and I look forward enjoying it.....I will definitely update .....One funny story is where the car was stored was city setting with tight side streets ...so during the test ride on an early Sunday morning the sound and percussion from the side pipes set off every car alarm as we passed by.....I am sure we woke everyone up!

I remember when you found and bought it. That is if my memory isn't plying tricks with me. I found your car interesting then and still do, and I have a foot in the pure stock world.
I think the engine was installed back in the 70's. It's a 1957 engine out of a Chyrsler 300. I get a kick out of those who ask if the 392 on the hood is supposed to be 396. When I open the hood it's a jaw dropper.
