Another SRIII step
Hey all,
Just dropped a Jeep Liberty back-end worth of parts off with Mike and the gang at SRIII.
He was kind enough to offer a tour to my wife and 3 year old daughter. Really nice digs and great projects!
Looking forward to seeing what they create (although I asked Mike to time it so I'm not dragging a frame home in the snow ).
Thanks Mike!

Tubular.......& Stiff :) Frame
Good to hear Mikes bussiness is moving allong well. I talked to him couple weeks ago on ordering.
Have you decided whitch rear end suspension config. you'll use (C4 or C5) ? I'm not sure a Dana 44 (Ie corvette or Viper ) would be strong enough for my application , so Im looking to a 9 inch dutchman or Heit for the gear set case. Thoughts ?

The Viper diff isn't a Dana 44 - it's a Dana "Super 44", and stands up fine against power-adder Viper V-10's with 14"-wide tires.

Your right
Yes Sir : I Stand corrected "Super Dana 44" .
whitch is better than Dana 44 or a Dana 36 for that matter.
I have considered the viper's torque with tire Yes............ but here is my thinking............. If I break it it will cost $$$$$. A 9 inch N case is STRONG, And pumpkin W/ carrier is available at any street corner (exaggerating . Easy to work on. The Super Dana 44 has an aluminum case and aluminum caps. A season of heavy launches with drag radials ....It will need to be serviced (Expensive)

Actually, I challenged Mike a bit....
I picked up a Currie F9 (http://www.currieenterprises.com/CES...E.aspx?id=3497).
The Driveshaft Shop signed up to make some 300M shafted CVs (something like http://www.driveshaftshop.com/domest...5-axle-hub-kit).
Am planning on about 1000hp at the rear wheels (twin turbo LS).
So, watch this space.....

BTW, for those that are interested....
Eyeballing it, the Currie unit looks to be on the order of an inch narrower than a Viper diff (from hub to hub).
The challenge is the hub diameter, which is a bit bigger in diameter than the Viper unit. Will have to see how Mike get's on with fabricating the frame and if the bigger hubs pose a problem.

The Spur gears in a quick change make too much noise. I like Strength , Reliability and Serviceability. This 9 inch with 930 CV axles should take allot of abuse . Perhaps high 9 second 1/4 mile I'll have to talk to SRIII Mike about mount's for a bolt-in 6 point cage.

What did you find out about the roll cage? I have been thinking about possibly adding one for my '63 coupe and SRIII chassis. What I struggle with is how do you get it in the car after the rest of the interior is in place? Or does it "wiggle" in, kind of like taking a big couch through a tight doorway?

cage
If you plan on running high 9 the six point cage will not cut it

"Planning"..... Not necessarily..but that's what the motor/trans was capable of before. But your right about the NHRA rules .. My problem is the 10 point cage, I'm removing won't let the glove box door open ....nor allow the stock head light switch to be used ....Bad placement. Thanks for the tip..... See NRHA rules link below>>>

That's an ugly break The Super Dana 44/Dana 44HD is a fairly stout, and with steel caps and quality pumpkin parts is very strong. The break shown above is usually a result of the car having too much vertical pinion rotation during launch, normally from deflection in bushings and the stock torque arm. It's the outer stubs that usually fail, they are the same on the D36 and D44.
The C5 setup with a 9" and the Driveshaft shop 300m CV's should do the trick. With a twin turbo car, you should be able to "manage" the power at launch and roll the coal to it. That kind of power is going to yield some crazy mph and 9 second ET's with no problem.
Mike Stockdale is just awesome to work with. I'm hoping to get started on my new project soon and have discussed some ideas with him. Are you building a vert or coupe?? Keep us posted, looks like a wild build!
