In my stash of things GS I have a Kit Car Magazine from May 1987. It has both those cars on the cover and in the article. They are MAI cars. Interesting in that back in 1987 they were using suspensions from only 3 year old Corvette's !!!
To show how long I have had a fascination with the GS I found my August 1965 copy of Car Life which had a nice cover shot of chassis #03 I believe and a small article about the conversion of two GS's to roadsters. Also found my April 1967 issue of Car and Driver with chassis #03 again !! This is when a David Erwin of Painted Post NY owned the car. Funny that 3 or 4 months later I was sitting in the Winterstein #02 roadster in Newtown Square Pa. trying to figure out where I was going to borrow the $2500 I needed to meet the expensive price of $5500 for the car . If only my Dad had loaned me the money !!!!!! Ahh Hindsight -----------Ken

I scanned the flyer. I could not find any date on it, but found where he talks about using 1984-1995 suspension, so it is not as early as I originally thought.
A couple notes of interest in the detail price break down, he supplied the 63-67 body with title, doors, locks, latches etc for 3500.00 and that coupled with installation for 8800.00 and all parts to make complete roller for 34339.00.
I sure thought about building one back then, just not enough time or money.

Wow, thank you so much Jeff! I'll have a bigger print made out of that and put it on the garage wall.

Has anyone any info on this:
http://imcdb.org/vehicle_279763-Chev...t-C2-1963.html
I see the movie was done way back in 1966, could it be the first GS replica? Or did they use an actual GS for that?
(I just ordered the DVD, haven't seen that movie before)

For those GS people looking for 15'' tires for their GS. I found some Michelin TB5 and TB15 spec tires in the sizes we use. They are a bit short in OD but have a V speed rating good for 149 mph. They are available from Coker tire in case anyone is interested. I got my new catalog today with my Hemmings. Sizes are 295/40VR15 for rears at $560 each !! and 270/45VR15 for fronts at $559 each !!!! OD for fronts is 24.5'' rears are 25.3 And I thought the Avons were expensive !!! These are replacement tires for Ferrari's !!! Looks like the GS's have good company in tire sizes. Ferrari's and Cobra's !!! -------------- Ken

Track re-debut
A good friend owns D&D #094, and, like our two Grand Sports, his is track prepared and raced.
#094 just got a transplant of a more powerful engine and yesterday was the day for seeing just how the new engine would do. The 3.0 mile Thunderhill track in northern California was the site of the action. I was there for moral support.
This attached picture is of #094 in full song as it approached Start/Finish. It does not do justice to the experience of being there. The new engine, redlined at well north of 7000, absolutely screams. It will break traction in 3rd gear.
Your take away? If ever you get a chance to track your Grand Sport, by all means do so. It is an experience you will never regret nor forget.

I'm planning on using my GS roadster as much on track as possible, all the suspension/brakes/steering modification have been done with track days in mind! Can't wait to get it finished.

Looks fantastic!
Do didn't take any video by any chance did you? (please say Yes!)
I would love to hear that car ripping around the track.
Can you give us a bit of information about the new engine?
Anymore pictures you would like to share?
Thanks for posting,
Ty

If anyone wants to see what their GS or other Corvette is capable of they should plan on coming to the Lonestar Corvette Club Classic at Texas Motor Speedway in May. There is kahana on Friday in the parking area and on Sunday the track is rented for the day. Participants can do the oval and/or the infield roadcourse. Go to Lonestar Corvette Club website for more information.

Ditto on Ready Eddies suggestion the road course is a lot of fun at The Lonestar show. I was hoping to get my GS ready for the show this year but it doesn't look like I am going to make it. My avatar picture was taken on the road course.

Same here Jeff, I do not know rather I will have my Wintersteen Roadster ready by then either. You can't beat the price of $50.00 for the day though even if you have to wait in line sometimes.

Didn't make many pictures (and I didn't make any videos at all). I'll look at what I took and see if any others look worthwhile. The owner had a video camera in the car; I'll see about getting a copy of the video and maybe youtube-ing it.
The engine details that I know:
Iron, 4 bolt, "010" block
AFR 220 heads
Scat 4340 crank and rods, 3.75" stroke
Solid roller cam, about .65 lift at the valve
Shaft rockers
Webers on a cross-ram manifold
One other detail: It screams

Did anyone notice the GS roadster in the "Fast 5" ad during the Super Bowl. Looks like another crappy movie with awesome cars and Vin Diesel beating ppl's heads in.

Mongoose Motorsports built eleven of the silver Gs roadsters for the filming of that movie coming out. Gary did not say if they were all turnkey with engines or not.
